The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed medical colleges not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21 ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. The advisory aims to ensure exam integrity, prevent malpractice, and support the fair conduct of the national-level medical entrance examination.

Ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a strict advisory to medical colleges across the country, directing them not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21 except under exceptional circumstances. The move comes as authorities intensify efforts to ensure the integrity and transparency of the crucial national-level medical entrance examination.

In an official notice issued on Thursday, the NMC instructed all medical colleges to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to discourage any activities that could compromise the sanctity of the examination process. The Commission emphasized that students must be sensitised regarding the importance of maintaining ethical conduct and staying away from any actions that could adversely affect the fair conduct of the examination.

According to the advisory, instances had previously come to the notice of authorities where certain medical students were allegedly involved in activities capable of undermining the integrity of examination procedures. Taking note of such concerns, the NMC stated that the latest directive serves as a deterrent measure aimed at preventing any potential misuse or misconduct during the re-examination period.

The Commission clearly directed medical colleges not to approve leave requests for students on June 20 and June 21 unless there are exceptional circumstances supported by proper justification. Officials said the restriction is intended to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and support a secure and transparent examination environment.

“This measure is intended as a preventive step to discourage any potential misuse and to support the fair conduct of the examination,” the advisory noted. The NMC also attached an official communication from the Department of Higher Education and instructed institutions to strictly comply with the guidelines.

The advisory comes at a critical time as preparations for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination enter the final phase. The re-test is being conducted following allegations of a paper leak during the original NEET-UG examination held on May 3, which sparked nationwide concerns regarding examination security and fairness.

Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed preparations for the re-examination and stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and efficiency throughout the process.

During a high-level review meeting on Thursday, Pradhan directed all concerned authorities to remain alert and ensure that every necessary arrangement is in place for the smooth and fair conduct of the examination. He underscored the importance of coordination among central and state agencies to prevent any irregularities.

The minister further informed that officers designated by the Union Ministry would be deployed across various states to oversee examination-related activities. These officers will coordinate with local authorities and submit reports to the central Command Centre headed by the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The latest NMC advisory is expected to play a significant role in safeguarding the credibility of one of India’s most important medical entrance examinations and restoring public confidence in the examination system.
