Tourist complaints rise at Neermahal in Tripura as poor boat services, mismanagement, and rude behavior impact visitor experience. Concerns grow over declining tourism standards, prompting calls for urgent government action to restore the destination’s reputation.
Concerns over visitor experience are growing at Neermahal, a historic water palace long celebrated as one of the most attractive destinations in Tripura. Repeated complaints from both domestic and international travelers suggest that the site is becoming increasingly unfriendly, particularly due to lapses in tourism management and service delivery.
Tourists have frequently taken to social media to highlight issues ranging from mismanagement to poor coordination with local service providers. Many of these services, especially boat operations that ferry visitors to the palace across Rudrasagar Lake, are handled by outsourced local operators. Visitors allege that the lack of oversight has led to inconsistent service quality and unprofessional behavior.
On Monday, several tourists visiting from outside the state reported a troubling experience with the boat services. According to eyewitness accounts, passengers were made to wait for hours until a minimum number of riders could be assembled. Even after prolonged delays, some operators allegedly refused to proceed with the trip, leaving tourists stranded and frustrated.
Among those affected was a family traveling across Tripura from Tamil Nadu, as well as visitors from neighboring Assam. Many expressed disappointment over what they described as discourteous behavior by operators and a lack of accountability from authorities.

Industry observers warn that such incidents, if left unaddressed, could harm the reputation of Neermahal as a prime tourism hub. They stress the need for immediate corrective measures, including stricter regulation, improved visitor management systems, and better training for service providers. Without swift intervention, the growing dissatisfaction among tourists could significantly impact the region’s tourism prospects.
