Delhi’s Malviya Nagar hotel fire tragedy has sparked a major investigation into hotel owner Lokesh Bajaj, alleged licensing violations, fire safety lapses, and management practices. The devastating blaze claimed 21 lives, including foreign nationals, while authorities probe ownership structures, overcrowding, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.

As investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the devastating hotel fire in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, focus has shifted to hotel owner Lokesh Bajaj and the management practices of the establishment where the blaze claimed 21 lives and left several others injured.

According to official sources, Lokesh Bajaj has been identified as the owner of the hotel where the tragic fire broke out. Following the incident, Delhi Police launched an extensive search operation to locate him. Multiple police teams have been formed and are conducting raids at various locations across the national capital as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have registered a case under provisions related to culpable homicide and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are also examining the role of three partners reportedly associated with the operation and management of the property.

Sources indicate that the partners collectively manage several hotels and guest houses across Delhi. As a result, authorities have widened the scope of the investigation to include ownership structures, licensing compliance, operational practices, and possible violations of safety regulations.

Preliminary findings have revealed potential irregularities in the functioning of the hotel. Officials stated that the property was registered under the Bed and Breakfast (B&B) category and was reportedly authorized to operate only six rooms. However, investigators suspect that nearly 25 rooms were being used to accommodate guests, raising serious concerns about overcrowding and compliance with licensing requirements.

The hotel’s restaurant operations have also come under scrutiny. Authorities are examining whether the restaurant was operating beyond the limits permitted under its licence and whether the actual activities conducted at the premises matched the permissions granted by regulatory authorities.

Another critical aspect of the investigation involves fire safety measures and emergency preparedness. Officials reported that the building allegedly had only one common entry and exit point, a factor that may have severely hampered evacuation efforts when the fire spread rapidly through the structure.

Investigators are assessing whether inadequate escape routes, overcrowding, and other safety deficiencies contributed to the high number of casualties. Fire safety compliance records and inspection reports are also being reviewed to determine whether any violations existed prior to the incident.

The tragic blaze resulted in the deaths of 21 people, including 17 foreign nationals from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. The incident has drawn widespread attention due to the significant loss of life and the international nature of many of the victims.

Authorities confirmed that 47 people were successfully rescued from the burning building. Of those rescued, 26 individuals are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (South Delhi) Jitender Kumar stated that rescue operations concluded shortly after noon. Emergency responders, including firefighters, police personnel, and medical teams, worked for several hours to evacuate occupants and control the blaze.

Meanwhile, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has admitted several injured individuals, including police personnel who were among the first responders entering the smoke-filled building during rescue efforts.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to determine whether negligence, licensing violations, or fire safety lapses played a role in one of Delhi’s deadliest hotel fire tragedies in recent years. The findings could lead to further legal action against those found responsible and may prompt a broader review of safety compliance standards across hotels and guest houses in the capital.
