India schedules 58 special repatriation flights from Gulf cities as Middle East airspace remains restricted amid US-Israel-Iran tensions. Civil Aviation Ministry coordinates IndiGo, Air India, and others to ensure passenger safety, controlled fares, and transparent travel updates.

India will operate 58 special flights from Gulf cities on March 4 to repatriate stranded passengers, even as large parts of Middle East airspace remain closed or restricted due to escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The move comes amid mounting travel disruptions affecting thousands of Indian nationals across the region.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian carriers are coordinating closely to ensure safe and calibrated operations. “Indian carriers are further planning 58 flights on 4th March, including 30 by IndiGo and 23 by Air India and Air India Express. Foreign carriers operating between India and the Gulf region are also undertaking limited operations, subject to operational and airspace considerations,” the ministry said in an official statement.

Among the Indian airlines participating in the special operation are IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air. These carriers are operating multiple special flights from Gulf hubs, including Dubai and Fujairah, to key Indian destinations such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram.

The Ministry stated that airlines have undertaken calibrated schedule adjustments, particularly for long-haul and ultra-long-haul operations. These services are being progressively resumed through alternative flight paths that avoid restricted or high-risk airspace zones. Aviation authorities emphasized that safety remains the top priority amid the evolving geopolitical situation.

Passengers have been urged not to proceed to Dubai International Airport or Al Maktoum International Airport unless directly contacted by their airline with confirmed departure details. Officials warned that airport access may be restricted and flight schedules remain subject to last-minute changes depending on airspace clearances.

Dubai’s airspace is currently partially open, with only a limited number of commercial flights permitted. Emirates and IndiGo are operating select services and issuing real-time updates through official channels. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways announced that scheduled departures from Abu Dhabi remain cancelled, with operations suspended until 2 pm local time on March 5. The airline added that repositioning, cargo, and repatriation flights may continue in coordination with UAE authorities.

Foreign carriers serving routes between India and Gulf nations are also conducting limited operations, contingent on operational feasibility and evolving airspace restrictions. Aviation analysts suggest that ongoing geopolitical volatility has forced airlines to reroute aircraft, increasing fuel consumption and operational costs.

The Civil Aviation Ministry reiterated that passenger welfare is paramount. “Passenger safety remains paramount. All airlines have been advised to maintain transparent communication with passengers and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements concerning refunds, rescheduling, and passenger assistance,” the statement said.

In addition, the government is closely monitoring airfare trends to prevent price surges during this period of heightened demand. Authorities confirmed that they are in continuous coordination with airlines to ensure that ticket pricing remains reasonable and that stranded passengers receive timely assistance.

With uncertainty continuing in the Middle East, Indian authorities have assured citizens that further contingency plans are in place should airspace restrictions persist. Officials indicated that additional flights may be scheduled depending on passenger demand and regional security developments.

As the situation unfolds, passengers are advised to remain in contact with their respective airlines, monitor official announcements, and avoid relying on unofficial travel updates circulating on social media.
