Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy slammed Tripura CM Manik Saha during a door-to-door campaign in Agartala, accusing the BJP of poor governance, political violence, and law enforcement failure. Roy claimed rising public anger and growing support for Congress amid ongoing attacks and democratic erosion under the BJP-led administration.

As part of the Congress party’s statewide door-to-door leaflet distribution campaign in Tripura, senior Congress leader and sitting MLA Gopal Chandra Roy took his message directly to the people on Saturday. Visiting households in the Lal Bahadur area of Agartala, Roy intensified his criticism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), targeting both state and central leadership over what he termed as a breakdown in democratic norms and law enforcement.

The campaign, aimed at engaging the public at a grassroots level, is designed to raise awareness about what the Congress claims are key issues deliberately ignored in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-running radio show, Mann Ki Baat. According to the Congress, topics such as political violence, administrative bias, and rising public dissatisfaction are consistently overlooked in the national discourse curated by the BJP.

Speaking to reporters during the campaign, Roy did not hold back in his criticism of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. “The Chief Minister repeatedly asserts that Tripura has seen manifold improvements in law and order under BJP governance,” Roy said. “If that’s true, why are opposition leaders being attacked in broad daylight? Why can’t we freely raise our voices or conduct programs without obstruction?”

Roy cited a recent incident in which he was allegedly attacked during a Congress event. Despite lodging a formal complaint at the East Agartala Police Station, no arrests have been made so far, he said. “This inaction which clearly reflects the failure of the law enforcement machinery. It also raises serious concerns about the erosion of democratic rights and space for dissent in Tripura under the BJP regime,” he added.

Though he did not name specific individuals, Roy indirectly accused BJP leaders from the Banamalipur constituency of encouraging a hostile political climate. “There’s an ongoing effort to suppress opposition voices using fear and intimidation,” he alleged. “But we’re seeing that the people are not afraid anymore. They’re increasingly frustrated and angry with the misgovernance and unmet promises of the BJP.”

Roy’s remarks are part of a larger narrative the Congress is trying to push as it rebuilds its base in Tripura. The door-to-door campaign has become a strategic tool for direct voter interaction, enabling Congress leaders to collect feedback, distribute informational leaflets, and counter the BJP’s claims at a local level.

“People are speaking up. They are telling us that they feel cheated,” Roy said. “What was promised hasn’t been delivered. There’s a gap between what the government says and what the citizens experience every day.”

He also emphasized that the Congress party’s efforts are being met with strong support from local residents, many of whom he claimed have begun to lose faith in the current government’s ability to govern fairly and effectively.

“We’re getting overwhelming support in every area we visit,” Roy concluded. “This isn’t just political posturing — it’s a genuine movement fueled by the people’s desire for change BJP. We believe Tripura is ready for a new direction, and the Congress is prepared to lead that transformation.”

As the campaign continues across the state, Tripura and the Congress party is expected to ramp up its direct outreach and keep law and order, political violence, and governance failures at the center of its narrative in the run-up to the next electoral cycle.
