Former teacher Dulu Miah and his daughter Ruma Akhter cleared the Tripura HS examination together from Jampuijala village, inspiring many with their dedication, perseverance, and belief that education has no age limit despite years of hardship and unemployment.
A remarkable story of determination and perseverance emerged from Jampuijala village in Tripura after the declaration of the Higher Secondary examination results conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. A father and daughter from the same family cleared the examinations together, turning the result day into a memorable celebration for the entire locality.
Dulu Miah, a former government school teacher, passed the HS examination alongside his daughter, Ruma Akhter. Their success story has drawn attention across the Sepahijala district for highlighting the power of persistence and the importance of education at any stage of life.
Miah had once dreamed of completing his Higher Secondary education many years ago. He passed the Madhyamik examination in 1997 and later appeared for the HS examination in 1999. However, he failed to secure passing marks at that time. Despite the setback, he continued supporting students in his area by providing private tuition for nearly twelve years.
In 2014, he secured a position as an undergraduate teacher in a government school. However, his career faced a major setback in 2020 after a Supreme Court ruling led to the termination of 10,323 teachers in Tripura due to legal complications related to recruitment procedures. Miah was among those who lost their jobs.
Speaking to media persons after the results were declared, Miah said the idea of appearing for the examination again came after encouragement from his daughter. Since both were preparing for the same examination, they studied together using the same notes and learning materials collected by Ruma.
According to Miah, the shared preparation helped him regain confidence in academics after many years away from formal education. Ruma Akhter secured more than 50 percent marks in the examination, while her father achieved 45 percent.
Their achievement sparked joy among family members and residents of the area. Miah’s wife expressed happiness over the success of both her husband and daughter, saying the family had gone through difficult years after his job loss.
Miah stated that education should never be restricted by age. He said learning is a lifelong process and opportunities to gain knowledge should always be embraced whenever possible. His words and achievements have already started inspiring many students and adults in nearby villages.

Ruma now plans to continue her higher education, while Miah is also considering taking admission in college to continue his academic journey. Both father and daughter had enrolled for the examination from Pramodnagar School under Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
Their story stands as a powerful example of resilience, family support, and the belief that education can transform lives regardless of age or circumstances.
