Hannan Mollah, Vice President of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), announced that farmers under the banner of AIKS would be launching protests across the capital of 25 major cities in India from November 26 for a duration of three days. The protests aim to exert pressure on the Central government to address the pending demands of the farmers.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Mollah expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of farmers’ issues. He highlighted that despite previous protests in Delhi, the government has failed to adequately address the concerns of farmers. Additionally, he criticized the government’s attempt to involve private partners in the agriculture sector, raising concerns among farmers about the future of their livelihoods.
The demands put forth by the farmers include loan waivers, implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP), compensation for families of farmers who have lost their lives during protests, and proper procurement and distribution of crops through the public distribution system.
Mollah further stressed that farmers are distressed due to the lack of MSP for their produce, leading to heavy loan burdens and pushing some to the brink of desperation, resulting in suicides. He accused the central government of betraying and neglecting the issues faced by farmers.
In addition to the national-level demands, Mollah also criticized the BJP government in Manipur for its handling of the situation in the state. He alleged that the government in Manipur has failed to effectively address the prevailing unrest and unrest has escalated to a critical level.
He urged the central leadership in Delhi to take immediate action to address the issues faced by farmers and maintain peace in Manipur. With the upcoming protests across 25 major cities, the AIKS seeks to amplify its demands and draw attention to the pressing concerns of farmers across the country.
Please note that the situation is subject to change, and further updates on the protests and developments may occur as events unfold.
