Eight BJP workers injured and a booth office burned in Nalchar after a violent clash with Tipra Motha supporters. Minister Kishor Barman alleges political violence, questions TTAADC fund transparency, and demands accountability amid rising tensions in Tripura.
A violent political confrontation in Tripura’s Sepahijala district left at least eight Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers injured and a party booth office reduced to ashes, intensifying tensions in the Nalchar Assembly constituency.
The incident took place at Bubhiram Chowdhury Para under the Nalchar constituency, where BJP supporters had gathered on Sunday morning to assess the damage caused by a fire that destroyed their booth office the previous night. According to eyewitnesses, the situation escalated rapidly after a group of alleged supporters of Tipra Motha launched an attack shortly after the departure of state minister Kishor Barman from the site.
Minister Barman had earlier visited the location to inspect the charred remains of the booth office and instructed party workers to rebuild the temporary structure. However, within a short span of time after his convoy left, armed assailants reportedly descended on the gathering, triggering chaos and violence.
Local sources confirmed that eight BJP activists sustained injuries during the clash, with several suffering fractures and serious trauma. The injured were initially taken to nearby healthcare facilities, while critically wounded individuals were referred to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment. Among the injured is a prominent local leader of the BJP’s ST Morcha, who reportedly suffered a broken arm.
Following the incident, Minister Barman visited the injured workers and strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an act of political desperation. Addressing the media, he alleged that individuals previously associated with unrest during the rule of Communist Party of India (Marxist) have now aligned with Tipra Motha to perpetuate a “culture of violence” in the region.

He further criticized the local leadership of Tipra Motha, accusing them of failing to maintain visibility and accountability in the constituency after the elections. “There is a pattern of disruption and violence that cannot be ignored,” Barman stated, adding that such actions undermine democratic processes and public trust.
The minister also raised serious concerns about the functioning of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. He alleged a lack of transparency in the utilization of development funds allocated by the state government. According to Barman, there has been no proper auditing of financial expenditures within the council, which he termed “unacceptable.”
“The leadership of Tipra Motha frequently voices opinions on various issues, but remains silent when it comes to financial accountability in the TTAADC,” he said. He challenged the party to present a clear and public account of how funds have been spent, asserting that visible development on the ground remains lacking despite sufficient allocations.
Meanwhile, security in the Nalchar area has been tightened to prevent further escalation. Authorities have not yet confirmed any arrests in connection with the attack, but investigations are currently underway.
