The ED conducted searches at trader Shahjahan Miah’s residence and shop in Agartala over suspected financial irregularities and alleged foreign monetary dealings. The operation, supported by central security forces, focused on possible cross-border financial links. Documents and materials were reportedly collected as the investigation continues.
Agartala witnessed heightened activity on Wednesday as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residence and business premises of local trader Shahjahan Miah over suspected financial irregularities and alleged foreign monetary dealings.
The operation took place in two prominent commercial areas of the city, with an ED team visiting Miah’s residence in the Western Club area of Akhaura Road while another team simultaneously searched his shop at Battala Fitting Market. Central security forces were deployed during the searches to maintain security and control access to the premises.
According to sources, ED officials arrived at Miah’s residence in the early hours and began questioning him. At the same time, another team proceeded to his business establishment in Battala, where officials reportedly examined documents and other materials connected with the inquiry.
The investigation is reportedly focused on suspected illegal financial transactions and possible links involving foreign monetary dealings. Sources also indicated that investigators were examining Miah’s alleged connections to activities in border areas. His movements had reportedly been under observation for several days before the searches were conducted.
The operation attracted considerable attention among local residents and traders, particularly because the searches were reportedly carried out independently by the central agency. Sources claimed that Tripura Police had not been informed in advance about the ED action.
During the searches, Miah was reportedly questioned extensively at both locations. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, there were no reports of any major recovery from the premises. Officials were said to have collected documents and other materials that could be relevant to the ongoing inquiry.
When approached, Miah reportedly said that he was unaware of the reasons behind the ED searches. The Enforcement Directorate had not issued an official statement regarding the operation or the specific allegations being examined at the time of reporting.
The documents and materials reportedly collected during the searches are expected to be examined by investigators to determine whether they reveal evidence of financial irregularities, suspicious transactions or possible cross-border links.
The ED operation has generated discussion across Agartala’s business community, particularly regarding the nature and extent of the suspected financial activities. Further details are expected to emerge after investigators complete their examination of the seized materials and determine the next course of action.
