Earlier on Wednesday senior leaders of the Tipra Motha Party formally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, expressing grave concern over what they described as persistent non-cooperation by the District Magistrate (DM) of Gomati district, Tarit Kumar Chakma. The party alleged that the DM has repeatedly refused to respond to the elected members of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), undermining democratic norms and obstructing grassroots governance.

According to the contents of the memorandum, the most recent incident occurred on May 25 last  when Tipra Motha founder and TTAADC Member of District Council (MDC) Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, accompanied by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purna Chandra Jamatia, visited the office of the Gomati District Magistrate. The purpose of the visit was to hold a discussion on several pressing development issues affecting the tribal areas. Despite the urgency and significance of the matters at hand, the DM refused to grant them an audience.

The leaders emphasized that this was not an isolated instance. Previous attempts to initiate dialogue with the District Magistrate had also gone unanswered. Specific dates cited in the memorandum—April 10, April 13, May 2, and May 6—document earlier efforts by TTAADC representatives to seek a meeting with the DM, all of which were reportedly ignored without any explanation.

In the memorandum, the Tipra Motha leaders asserted that as elected public representatives, they have both the right and responsibility to engage with district-level officials to raise critical developmental concerns. They highlighted several key issues that remain unresolved due to the DM’s inaccessibility and administrative inaction.

Among the issues brought to light were the non-implementation of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) wages in several TTAADC areas, which has severely affected rural livelihoods. The leaders also flagged irregularities and delays in the selection of beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission—a scheme vital for promoting economic resilience in the tribal belt. Additionally, the non-construction of forest check dams, despite repeated proposals and need assessments, was cited as another example of administrative negligence. Several other infrastructure and welfare-related problems were also outlined in the memorandum.

The Tipra Motha delegation urged the Chief Minister to intervene directly, calling on him to ensure that the District Magistrate initiates a dialogue with TTAADC representatives and begins immediate action to address the issues raised. The party also requested that the Chief Minister issue instructions to the DM for the transparent and timely execution of all ongoing and proposed development schemes.
