Delhi CM Rekha Gupta will visit Tripura on May 13 to offer prayers at the historic Tripura Sundari Temple after attending the BJP government swearing-in ceremony in Assam led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.
A visit to one of the most revered Hindu shrines in Northeast India is scheduled as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will arrive in Tripura on May 13 to offer prayers at the historic Tripura Sundari Temple, officials confirmed on Monday.
The temple, popularly known as Matabari, is situated in Udaipur, around 55 kilometres from Agartala, and is considered one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations in the region. Dedicated to Goddess Tripureshwari, the shrine attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year. The centuries-old temple was constructed in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya and holds immense religious and historical importance.
According to Hindu belief, the temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred sites associated with Goddess Sati. It is believed that Sati’s right foot fell at the location where the temple now stands. Built atop a small hillock shaped like a tortoise, the temple is also architecturally significant and remains a major cultural landmark in Tripura.
Officials said Rekha Gupta will travel to Tripura after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led government in Assam. Before reaching Guwahati for the event, she is also expected to visit the revered Kamakhya Temple to seek blessings.
The oath-taking ceremony in Assam will mark the continuation of the BJP-led administration under Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the BJP-led NDA legislature party on Sunday and is scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister during a grand ceremony in Guwahati on May 12.
Political observers believe the Delhi Chief Minister’s visit reflects the BJP leadership’s continued focus on strengthening cultural and political engagement across the northeastern states. The planned visits to prominent temples in Assam and Tripura are also being viewed as part of the party’s broader outreach efforts in the region.
