Tripura’s main opposition party, CPIM, has strongly criticized the state budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, calling it “hollow” and “directionless.” Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury accused the government of neglecting the economic struggles of the people, particularly rural and tribal communities.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the budget on Friday, with an outlay of ₹32,423.44 crore. However, the opposition claims it fails to tackle critical issues like unemployment, poverty, and infrastructure development.
Choudhury alleged that the budget prioritizes a select few while ignoring the hardships of ordinary citizens. “This budget does nothing to improve the lives of the underprivileged,” he stated. He further criticized the government’s seven-year track record, saying it has failed to create long-term assets or boost capital investment.
The CPIM leader also dismissed the budget speech as mere rhetoric, arguing that the proposals offer no concrete solutions for employment generation or economic growth.
