CPI(M) holds a major sit-in protest in Teliamura demanding the dismissal of Minister Sudhanshu Das, crackdown on drug smuggling, and justice for victims of sexual assault and murder. Leaders warn of a state-wide movement if demands are ignored.

Amid rising political discontent and growing public anger, the CPI(M) Teliamura Sub-Divisional Committee organised a massive sit-in demonstration at the heart of Teliamura town on Thursday. The protest was held in support of a three-point demand addressing corruption, drug smuggling, and crimes against women and minors.

Hundreds of CPI(M) supporters gathered under the blazing sun, raising slogans against the state government and demanding immediate accountability. The demonstration highlighted what the Left party described as a “complete failure of governance” under the present regime.

Three Demands That Sparked the Protest

The protesters presented three key demands before the administration:

  1. Immediate dismissal of Minister Sudhanshu Das, who allegedly admitted to accepting bribes from contractors and government beneficiaries.

  2. Arrest of those involved in importing and smuggling contraband substances through railway wagons in Tripura.

  3. Strict punishment for culprits in the recent sexual assault and murder cases of minors reported in North Padmabil (Dharmanagar subdivision), Ampi (Amarpur), and Mirza (Udaipur subdivision).

Speakers at the rally condemned the state government for its alleged inaction, asserting that law and order in Tripura have collapsed. The leaders accused the ruling party of shielding the accused and ignoring the voices of victims’ families.

Allegations of Lawlessness and Administrative Failure

According to CPI(M) leaders, the government’s inability to control the drug menace and rising youth unemployment has created a dangerous situation in society. They claimed that the rampant smuggling of narcotics through railway wagons has gone unchecked, contributing to a surge in addiction among young people.

“The administration has turned a blind eye to both the growing drug trade and the increasing crimes against women and minors,” alleged one of the speakers. Protesters chanted slogans such as “Save Tripura, Save Democracy” and “Down with Corruption.”

Leaders Call for Accountability and Justice

Addressing the gathering, former Minister Aghore Debbarma launched a scathing attack on the state government, alleging that corruption has crossed all limits.
“Those in power are misusing their positions for personal enrichment, while the people suffer. This government has lost its moral right to stay in office,” Debbarma said.

Other prominent leaders, including State leaders Sudhan Das and Manindra Das, along with Divisional Secretary Subhash Nath, also addressed the rally. They demanded that the state administration take immediate and transparent action against all accused in the corruption, smuggling, and crime cases.

Nath emphasized that the government must ensure justice through fast-track trials, especially for the victims of recent child sexual assault cases, to restore public faith in the justice system.

Warning of Statewide Agitation

The CPI(M) leaders issued a clear warning that if their three-point demands are ignored, they will intensify the agitation across Tripura in the coming weeks.
“Our movement will not stop here. This is just the beginning,” said Manindra Das. “The people of Tripura will rise to defend democracy, justice, and dignity.”

As the sit-in concluded, party workers pledged to continue their struggle until the demands are met. The rally ended with the resounding slogan — “Save Tripura, Save Democracy.”

The demonstration in Teliamura marks a significant moment in Tripura’s political scene, reflecting growing discontent over governance, corruption, and social insecurity. Observers believe that such public movements may intensify pressure on the ruling administration to address citizens’ concerns on corruption, law enforcement, and safety.
