Christmas was celebrated in Tripura with pomp and enthusiams by people belonging to all faiths through various programmes across the state on Saturday, spreading a strong message on communal harmony.
While many of the people went to Churches and participated in prayers , many other people were seen roaming, cutting cakes, clicking selfies and exchanging greetings with their near and dear ones.
While the city was dressed up with colourful illumination, Bethlehem stars, Christmas trees displayed in front of various shops and establishments, there were also gatherings in most of the roads. Besides, the restaurants and roadside eateries had drawn an unusual crowd on Christmas evening.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited Shanti Rani Catholic Church Mariam Nagar and Union Baptist Church, A.D. Nagar and prayed for peace, prosperity, and development of the state. During his visit to Mariam Nagar, he was greeted by Sister Mary John.
Later addressing the programme at Mariam Nagar, Deb said the government would highlight the outline of Vision-2047, an action plan for the next 25 years, on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Statehood.
Deb said the government would buy more 20,000 MT paddy from farmers at the minimum support price of Rs 19.18 per kg this year.
“The monthly income of farmers increased to Rs 11,093 per month in 2020-21 from Rs. 6,580 in 2017-18,” he said, adding that around 2.35 lakh farmers covered under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme were already receiving Rs. 6,000 in their bank accounts per year.
According to Deb, the state is currently exporting various goods including pineapples worth around Rs. 121 crore.
Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly- Ratan Chokraborty, general secretary of Purbadaya Niti Deb and Father Linus of Shanti Rani Catholic Church were present on the occasion.
