Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a slew of projects including Vidyajyoti Schools and the new terminal of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala on January 4 next.

Addressing a programme on Saturday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said the Prime Minister would be arriving here to inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) of MBB Airport, developed at a cost of Rs. 3400 crore.

“PMO has confirmed the visit of the Prime Minister to Tripura to dedicate the new terminal building of MBB Airport, second busiest Airports of the Northeast,” Deb told a gathering at Mariam Nagar Church premise on the occasion of Christmas.

While the 100 Vidyajyoti Schools under the ‘Mission 100’ scheme, the biggest ever project of the state, is assumed to be important for building a strong future generation and new Tripura, the new airport terminal would boost the state’s air connectivity along with increasing the passenger handling capacity.

Vidyajyoti project is touted as the most ambitious project for making the new generation achieve brighter future and professional life.

According to sources already there are huge rush for CBSE schools – as the department recorded at least three times more admission applications –around 1600 plus -for the CBSE courses.

Chief Secretary Kumar Alok on Saturday tweeted that he had briefed the Prime Minister about the projects to be launched during his visit to Tripura.

Earlier this month, a top official of the Airport Authority of India visited the state to review the work progress at the new terminal building and held a meeting with the officials concerned.

The new terminal building has been built across an area of about 30,000 square meters. There will be 20 check-in counters. Various handicrafts from Tripura are being used in the construction of the new terminal. The new terminal has the capacity to handle 1200 passengers including international travellers per day.

A BJP top leader said when the state government announced the Vidyajyoti Schools; the Communists as expected from their negative attitude tried to play the game in their own style and made attempts to misguide the people explaining that the move was meant for privatization of the schools. But, their plan didn’t work; rather the scheme would ensure quality education to the students.
