Agartala, Dec 01: A day after the Charilam political clash incident, GBP Hospital witnessed a chaotic situation on Thursday after police refused to hand over the body of CPM supporter Sahid Mia, who died in the clash on Wednesday, to his family at the hospital.
According to police, the body had not been handed over to the deceased’s family in the hospital to prevent any untoward incident on his way back home crossing highly violating and sensitive areas since he had died in a political clash.
When the deceased’s family members reached the morgue of GB hospital to take the body, police didn’t agree with them. As a result, there was a minor scuffle between the police and the family members. The situation worsened after some CPM leaders including state secretary Jiten Choudhury joined the agitating group and got engaged in arguments with police.
In the meantime, an allegation was there that police had hijacked the body. Even, a protest programme was organized in front of police headquarters, Agartala.
By that time, police had reportedly reached the deceased’s home along with the body. Police had also faced another round of agitation from the local villagers.
Finally, the body was buried in a graveyard near Puranbari forest office.
Meanwhile, four persons were reportedly arrested in connection with the Charilam violence. The four arrested persons are- Subham Debnath, Dilip Kumar Bhowmik, Bhavatosh Dutta and Goutam Das.
