Centre gives Rs 167 cr for JJM, approves 775 kms roads under PMGSY-III

In view of the satisfactory performance of the concerned departments the central government extended Rs.166.74 crore for Tripura for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission which seeks to supply piped drinking water to about 7.5 lakhs rural households under the Jal Jeevan Mission by the end of this year.

The fund was allocated to implement Jal Jeevan Mission to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household and to take up associated Support as well as Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance activities to the Government of Tripura towards first tranche of 1st installment of Rs. 33348.39 lakh during the year 2022-23.

The fund is to be utilized to implement Jai Jeevan Mission for providing functional household tap connection (FHTC) to every rural household as provided in the guidelines which will be monitored against the month-wise/ quarter-wise financial plan and commensurate physical progress in terms of FHTCs and related Support & WQMS activities as per the Annual Action Plan (AAP) of JJM for 2022-23 to achieve the annual target of FHTCs.

Priority would be given to the schemes covering quality-affected habitations, SAGY villages, villages in drought-prone/ desert areas, SC/ ST dominated villages, villages in Aspirational districts and districts affected with JE/AFS as per the Annual Action Plan of State for 2022-23.

The State is to ensure release/ transfer of the matching State share within 15 days of receipt of Gol share to the ESCROW account of implementing agency of Jai Jeevan Mission. Further, the next release to the accounts shall not be made without ensuring release of State share for the previous release.

Sushanta Chowdhury minister in charge of DWS, ICA etc in his social media platform said that the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti gave the fund under the grant-in-aid head.

Chowdhury said, already around 4 lakhs households had been provided with free drinking water facility under the mission.

He conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekwat for releasing the fund.

 

Besides, an official statement said the Ministry of Rural Development also approved 32 roads for Tripura under the PMGSY-III.  The length of the 32 roads is 231.64 km and the project cost would be Rs. 214.23 crore. The total allocation was 775 km stretches of road network in the state.

The 32 roads sanctioned under PMGSY-III fall in North Tripura (4 roads, 21.919 km), Dhalai (1 road, 12.877 km), Khowai district (8 roads, 55.811 km), South Tripura (6 roads, 50.077 km) and West Tripura District (11 roads, 78.531 km).
Tripura had adopted Nano technology for 16 roads with 122.71 km for better quality of roads and cost optimization.

The PMGSY-III focuses on consolidation of the existing Rural Road Network by upgrading the Through Routes (TR) and Major Rural Links (MRLs) that connected habitations with agricultural and rural market (GrAMs), educational facilities, hospitals, administrative headquarters etc.

The state would adopt Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) mechanism in 250 km of road construction under PMGSY-III to ensure better quality and durability, the officials said.
