Border Security Force personnel thwarted an intrusion bid by the Bangladeshi cattle smugglers as they opened fire at them and injured one seriously. The incident did take place at Raghna border outpost in North Tripura district at the wee hours on Thursday.
The smuggler- Najrul Miah, resident of Moulvibazar in Bangladesh, was shifted to GBP hospital in Agartala.
Officials said, a gang of five cattle smugglers from Bangladesh had entered the Indian territory at Dharmanagar sub-division early on Thursday by cutting the barbed wire border fencing. Noticing the incident, a jawan from 139-Bn BSF who was on duty opened four rounds of fire at them.
One smuggler sustained bullet injury and he was detained by the BSF jawans. During preliminary interrogation, the detainee informed the police that he was accompanied by four others- Sohel Miah, Sultan Miah, Montar Miah and Bachhu Miah. They had crossed the border to take eight cattle heads to Bangladesh.
Following the incident there was mild tension along the border.
Meanwhile, when the BSF party approached Dharmanagar police for taking the injured smuggler into custody, police denied it and asked the BSF to hand over only after the treatment.
A case , however, has been registered in Dharmanagar police station relating to the incident.
In another incident Kamalasagar area Border Security Force personnel nabbed one Bangladeshi citizen from near the International border on late Wednesday night. The detainee- Jashim Uddin was handed over to Madhupur police station on Thursday.
On duty BSF personnel of 150-Bn in Kamalasagar nabbed the Bangladeshi citizen.
