Bharat Bandh largely failed to evoke much response in Tripura as government offices, educational institutions, banks and private establishments remained open.

In Agartala, the strike did not cast any impact on normal life in Agartala. Most of the Shops, malls, markets, schools, colleges and all the government offices were open. Some shops and business establishments though kept their shutter locked, after sometime they also started trading. Buses, autos and rickshaws were seen on roads as usual. Bus services from Chandrapur, Nagerjala and Radhanagar were normal. Rail and air services were also unaffected.

All Tripura Merchants’ Association General Secretary Sujit Roy told that thousands of their members did not participate in the strike and business remained unaffected.

BJP claimed the Bandh was a total failure as people completely rejected the shutdown. However, CPM claimed that people positively responded to the Bandh call and denounced the Modi-government’s policies and laws.

The Bandh was called in protest against three contentious Farm Laws which got the President’s nod one year ago. In Tripura several Left organizations and Congress supported the Bandh.

In other parts of the State, normal life remained unaffected due to the Bandh.

In the meantime however CPM state unit secretary Jitendra Choudhury claimed the strike was successful.

“We have called the people to extend their support to the farm laws and other anti-people policies and programmes of the Narendra Modi led government. Although we didn’t do any picketing today people voluntarily closed their shops, markets and mass transport including the staff buses of many government departments that didn’t ply on the road,” claimed Choudhury.

He claimed that people across the state responded positively towards the Bandh on Monday and protested against the policy and laws of the Modi government at the centre.

Meanwhile, to support the bandh, CPI-M legislators had boycotted the assembly session which came to an end on Monday. Choudhuri said, “The assembly houses of the BJP ruled states including our state has been now turned to throttle the democratic voice of the opposition parties and there is no exception in Parliament house also.”
