The Agriculture Minister reviews the Tarasundari Chhara beautification project in Mohanpur, focusing on irrigation improvement, water conservation, public park development and eco-friendly restoration to boost farming, environment and tourism potential for local communities.
Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing restoration and beautification work at Tarasundari Chhara, a natural stream located in Dakshin Tarangar under the Mohanpur sub-division. The initiative, undertaken by the Agriculture Department, aims to rejuvenate the neglected water body and transform the surrounding area into a vibrant ecological and recreational zone.
During his visit, the minister was accompanied by senior officials of the Agriculture Department, local administration representatives and residents of the area. The inspection was carried out to assess the pace and quality of the ongoing work and to ensure that the project is progressing according to the proposed development plan.
Speaking to reporters following the inspection, Nath said that the project holds “significant value” for the region, especially for the farming community. According to him, the restoration of Tarasundari Chhara will drastically enhance irrigation support for nearby agricultural lands, leading to better crop productivity and improved livelihoods for local farmers. He added that residents who were dependent on irregular water sources for their farming needs would greatly benefit from the revived stream.

Officials of the Agriculture Department presented a comprehensive developmental blueprint for the stream and its adjoining surroundings. The detailed plan includes dredging and cleaning the water channel, strengthening embankments, preventing pollution, and introducing long-term measures to maintain water flow throughout the year. The minister emphasized that these efforts will not only revive the water body but also support sustainable water management practices in the region.
Local residents who interacted with the minister expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts to restore the long-neglected stream. Many noted that the area had suffered due to years of abandonment and lack of proper water management systems, which affected both farming and the local environment. The new initiative, they believe, marks a major step toward improving the socio-economic conditions of the region.
Nath also highlighted the government’s wider objective of developing regions adjacent to the National Highway with improved infrastructure and modern public facilities. As part of the broader development plan, the Tarasundari Chhara project includes the construction of a well-designed public park near the stream. The proposed park will feature walking spaces, a dedicated play area for children, landscaped gardens and multiple recreational facilities for families.
According to the minister, this recreational zone aims to attract visitors from nearby towns and potentially establish the area as a small-scale tourism destination in the future. “We want to transform this region into a place where people can relax, enjoy nature and spend quality time with their families,” he said. He added that such development initiatives not only enhance public facilities but also contribute to the local economy.
A strong emphasis has also been placed on water conservation. Nath stated that the project integrates modern water-retention techniques and environment-friendly approaches to ensure the longevity of the stream. These include setting up natural filtration zones, planting water-preserving vegetation and adopting strategies to reduce soil erosion around the stream’s banks. The goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem that benefits both the environment and the local people.
Nath further emphasized that proper water management is essential for ensuring long-term agricultural stability in the region. The restoration of water bodies like Tarasundari Chhara will help reduce farmers’ dependence on unpredictable rainfall and promote a more resilient agricultural system. He added that improving environmental health and developing community-friendly spaces remain key priorities of the government.
