Newly elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Boxanagar assembly constituency, Samsul Haque, breathed his last last night due to a massive cardiac arrest. The 67-year-old leader was admitted to GBP Hospital after experiencing severe breathing problems at his residence in Kulubari.
Samsul Haque, a prominent figure within the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)], had a long-standing association with the party since his student days and had been an active member of the Sonamura’s subdivisional party secretariat. He had been nominated to contest the assembly elections in place of the ailing MLA and former minister, Shahid Chowdhury.
Having won the election with a significant margin, Samsul Haque had embarked on his responsibilities with utmost dedication, working tirelessly for the welfare of the people. However, his sudden demise has left the CPI (M) with one MLA less than the eleven seats they secured in the previous assembly polls.
With his death out of four constituencies in Sonamura Dhanpur and Boxanagar went vacant. Earlier , Pratima Bhowmik who had been elected from Dhanpur resigned.
Upon receiving the news, the Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, expressed his deepest condolences, considering the loss of Samsul Haque as a significant blow that cannot be easily compensated. In a gesture of mourning, the Chief Minister announced that he would refrain from carrying out any official duties for the day.
Today, Samsul Haque’s mortal remains were brought to the state assembly, where ministers and available MLAs paid their respects in a tribute ceremony. Subsequently, his remains were taken to the CPI (M) state headquarters in Melarmath, where senior party leaders and workers honored him with floral tributes. The final rites and burial will take place in Boxanagar today, following the performance of rituals.
The sudden demise of Samsul Haque has not only left his family and loved ones in grief but has also created a void in the political landscape of Boxanagar. The late MLA’s dedication and commitment to the welfare of his constituents will be remembered by all. The CPI (M) now faces the task of filling this void and continuing the work championed by Samsul Haque in his memory.
