Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma orders a transparent probe into alleged food supply irregularities at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Girls’ Hostel in Agartala after a surprise inspection, reaffirming commitment to students’ welfare, safety, accountability, improved hostel facilities, and strict action against those responsible.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has ordered a comprehensive and transparent investigation into allegations of irregularities related to food supplies at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls’ Hostel on Jagannath Bari Road in Agartala. The directive came after the minister conducted a surprise inspection of the hostel following complaints regarding the quality and management of food provided to resident students.

The unannounced visit was aimed at assessing the situation first-hand and ensuring that the concerns raised by hostel residents were addressed without delay. During the inspection, Debbarma held detailed discussions with the students, allowing them to express their grievances and share their experiences regarding the alleged irregularities. He also interacted with hostel authorities and collected relevant information to understand the circumstances surrounding the complaints.

Following the inspection, the minister instructed the concerned administrative officials to carry out an impartial, transparent, and time-bound inquiry into every aspect of the allegations. He emphasized that the investigation should be conducted fairly, ensuring that all facts are thoroughly examined before any conclusions are reached.

Debbarma stated that the welfare, safety, and rights of students remain the government’s highest priority. He asserted that negligence, corruption, or any form of malpractice affecting students would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The minister warned that if the allegations are found to be true during the investigation, those responsible would face strict legal and departmental action in accordance with established rules and regulations.

The inspection also reflected the government’s commitment to maintaining quality standards in educational institutions and hostels that provide accommodation to students from tribal communities. Ensuring nutritious food, hygienic living conditions, and proper management of hostel facilities, the minister said, are essential components of student welfare.

Later in the day, Debbarma extended his inspection to Bodhjung ST Boys’ Hostel and the Women’s College ST Girls’ Hostel in Agartala. During these visits, he reviewed the overall living environment, hostel infrastructure, sanitation, maintenance, and the availability of essential facilities for students.

The minister interacted with hostel residents and officials to understand their requirements and identify areas that need immediate improvement. He assured students that necessary steps would be taken to upgrade facilities wherever shortcomings are identified, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and supportive residential environment.

Addressing officials during the inspections, Debbarma remarked that every initiative undertaken for the welfare of students is an investment in the future of the state. He noted that quality education must be complemented by secure and well-managed residential facilities, enabling students to pursue their academic goals without unnecessary hardship.

The surprise inspections and the ordered inquiry have been welcomed as a significant step toward ensuring accountability in hostel management and protecting the interests of students residing in government-run hostels across the state.
