Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu urged public participation in the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan at Tripura University, highlighting youth empowerment, drug abuse prevention, awareness, rehabilitation, and collective efforts to build a drug-free, healthy, and developed India.
Calling for a united fight against drug abuse, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Sunday urged every citizen to actively participate in the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan”, describing it as a people’s movement rather than merely a government initiative. The Governor made the appeal while attending the virtual launch of the campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the conference hall of the Academic Building at Tripura University.
The programme, jointly organised by MY Bharat and Tripura University, brought together university officials, government representatives, students, faculty members, and youth volunteers to reaffirm their commitment to building a drug-free India. During the event, participants took a pledge to support the nationwide movement against substance abuse and contribute towards the vision of a healthy and developed nation.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu emphasized that eliminating drug addiction requires the collective participation of every section of society. He appealed to parents to educate their children about the harmful consequences of drug abuse, teachers to guide students towards responsible lifestyles, community leaders to inspire positive social values, and young people to reject narcotics while motivating their peers to do the same.
The Governor noted that the Government of India has been consistently working to combat drug addiction since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has formulated the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), focusing on prevention, awareness, identification of substance abuse, counselling, treatment, rehabilitation, and community engagement.
He further explained that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), launched on August 15, 2020, initially covered 272 districts identified as vulnerable to drug abuse but has now expanded to all districts across the country. According to the Governor, the campaign operates through three major pillars—strict action against narcotics trafficking by the Narcotics Control Bureau, awareness and outreach initiatives led by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and treatment and rehabilitation services coordinated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Highlighting Tripura’s geographical location along the international border, Governor Nallu expressed concern over the state’s vulnerability to illegal drug trafficking. He warned that narcotics networks often target young people, causing serious damage to their health, families, and society. Stressing the importance of coordinated action, he said the Centre, the State Government, educational institutions, civil society organisations, and citizens must work together to eliminate the menace of drugs.
Governor Nallu also virtually joined the national launch of the campaign from Raj Bhavan, where he listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address. During his speech, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of protecting India’s youth from substance abuse and called upon educational institutions, youth organisations, parents, teachers, and civil society to spread awareness about the dangers of drugs while encouraging healthy and productive lifestyles.
Appreciating the Government of India’s initiative, the Governor said the campaign would significantly contribute to safeguarding the future of the country’s youth. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of the movement by spreading awareness in educational institutions and local communities while promoting discipline, responsibility, and positive social engagement.
The programme at Tripura University was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das, Special Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapan Kumar Das, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, MY Bharat Tripura Director Mehboob Alam Laskar, faculty members, students, MY Bharat volunteers, and several other dignitaries.

The “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” aims to strengthen the country’s ongoing efforts against drug addiction through awareness campaigns, preventive education, rehabilitation, and active community participation.
