The state unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has criticized multiple statements made by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in recent times. CPM State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury expressed his concerns during a press meeting held in Agartala on Sunday.
Choudhury began by addressing Dr. Saha’s reported statement in which he mentioned that the feriwalas (carriers) of socialism are now the anti-socials. The CPM State Secretary strongly criticized this statement, as well as Dr. Saha’s assertion that an ambience of faith and spirituality has replaced atheism in the state. Choudhury argued that such statements might lead to regression rather than progress for the state.
Taking aim at Dr. Saha’s statement that the government is prepared to take strict action against troublemakers, Choudhury pointed out that the Chief Minister made this statement while standing at the house of a deceased person who was allegedly involved in several crimes, including the molestation of a woman. The general public protested against and resisted the individual, leading to their fatal beating.
Indirectly referring to Nabadal Banik, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), Choudhury criticized the Chief Minister for praising someone who was allegedly involved in the attack and vandalism of a media house in Agartala.
Furthermore, the CPM leader criticized Dr. Saha’s claim that Tripura has made significant progress. Choudhury disputed this claim, highlighting the lack of investment in the state and the poor condition of the Bodhjung Nagar Industrial belt. He also criticized the ruling government for reducing the allocation of funds for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in the Central budget, stating that the allocation was reduced by almost one-third compared to the previous allocation.
The CPM leaders mentioned other statements made by Dr. Saha and contradicted them, further expressing their dissatisfaction with the Chief Minister’s remarks.
