The 2026/27 Premier League enters Matchweek 9 with Liverpool hosting Arsenal, Manchester City facing Brighton and Chelsea meeting Manchester United. Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and other clubs will also seek crucial points as the competition continues across Halloween weekend.

The 2026/27 English Premier League season enters Matchweek 9 with several exciting fixtures scheduled across Halloween weekend, headlined by Liverpool’s blockbuster encounter against Arsenal at Anfield. Manchester City will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion, while Chelsea prepare to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in another high-profile contest.

The Liverpool-Arsenal meeting is expected to attract significant attention, with Arsenal aiming to end their 13-match winless run in Premier League away matches at Anfield. The Gunners last secured a league victory at the venue during the 2012-13 season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have struggled to dominate this fixture in recent league meetings, winning only one of their last eight encounters against Arsenal, alongside five draws and two defeats. Arsenal will also have an opportunity to become the second club after Manchester United to record 300 away victories in Premier League history, having registered 299 so far, according to the supplied match statistics.

Manchester City will host Brighton after suffering their first league defeat of the season against Aston Villa. City will look to return to winning ways, with an impressive record of 10 consecutive league victories in matches played on Halloween. They have also scored in each of their last 24 Premier League matches.

Brighton have been among the division’s most productive attacking sides, scoring 23 league goals this season, compared with City’s 20. Both teams also lead the league in expected goals, with Manchester City recording 16.7 and Brighton 16.2.

Another major attraction will be Chelsea’s home meeting with Manchester United. Both clubs will be looking to improve their recent performances. Chelsea have lost 11 Premier League matches since the beginning of March, more than any other team during that period. Manchester United, meanwhile, have gone eight matches without a victory across all competitions, recording five defeats and three draws.

However, United will take confidence from winning both league meetings against Chelsea last season. They will aim to secure three consecutive victories over the Blues for the first time since September 1965. Chelsea have also lost their previous two Premier League home matches played on October 31.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Crystal Palace after securing victories in their last two league matches. Tottenham have scored six of their eight league goals this season during the final 15 minutes, making them one of the division’s most effective teams in the closing stages.

Crystal Palace, however, have experienced defensive difficulties, conceding 19 goals in their opening eight matches. This represents their highest number of goals conceded at this stage of a top-flight campaign since the 1980-81 season.

Aston Villa will host Fulham in another interesting encounter. Fulham are aiming to extend their winning streak to three consecutive league matches for the first time since December 2025. After failing to win their opening six games, they have recovered with successive 1-0 victories against Hull City and Coventry City.

Villa have historically enjoyed a strong home record against Fulham, losing only once in 18 Premier League meetings at home, with 12 victories and five draws. However, Fulham won their most recent league meeting.

AFC Bournemouth will take on Leeds United after recording consecutive league victories. Leeds have lost only two of their last 17 Premier League matches. Their previous four top-flight encounters have produced 20 goals, averaging five goals per match, with three featuring a goal in the 90th minute.

Bournemouth forward Evanilson has contributed seven league goals this season, scoring three and providing four assists. His current contribution matches his total from 36 appearances last season.

Brentford will face Nottingham Forest, with the home side having scored in all eight league matches so far, a record shared only with Manchester City. Forest have scored just six goals, the lowest tally in the division, despite recording an expected goals figure of 13.5. Brentford have lost only one of their last nine home league matches, while Forest have lost their previous five league games played on Halloween.

The weekend will also feature the first-ever top-flight meeting between Hull City and Ipswich Town. Both promoted sides have collected 10 points from their opening eight matches, marking the first occasion since the 2010-11 season that two promoted teams have reached double figures at this stage.

Hull are currently winless in their last six league matches after winning their opening two fixtures. Ipswich, meanwhile, have conceded in each of their last 27 Premier League matches.

Coventry City will host Sunderland in a contest between two of the division’s lowest-scoring teams. Both have scored only six goals this season. Coventry have failed to score in five matches, the highest number in the league, while Sunderland are without a victory in their last six games and have failed to score in their previous three.

Coventry will look to maintain their impressive record against Sunderland, having remained unbeaten in their last 10 league meetings, with five victories and five draws. Sunderland have won only twice in 21 league visits to Coventry.

Newcastle United will meet Everton in the final fixture of Matchweek 9 on Monday. Everton will attempt to win three consecutive away league matches at St James’ Park for the first time. Newcastle have won only one of their last six Premier League meetings with Everton, recording two draws and three defeats.

Everton, however, have struggled away from home, remaining winless in their last nine league away matches. Newcastle have also faced 138 shots in their opening eight matches, the highest number in the division. Everton defender James Tarkowski has won 63 duels, more than any other player this season.

With several major clashes, important statistical milestones and teams looking to improve their league positions, Matchweek 9 promises an entertaining weekend of Premier League football from October 31 to November 2.
