East Agartala Police apprehended four juveniles in connection with multiple vehicle theft cases, recovering two motorcycles, a scooter and an electric rickshaw. Investigations are continuing to identify possible links to other theft incidents across the city.

East Agartala Police have apprehended four juveniles in connection with a series of vehicle theft cases and recovered multiple stolen vehicles, including two motorcycles, a scooter and an electric rickshaw, following investigations into incidents reported in different parts of the city.

According to police officials, the operation began after a complaint was lodged regarding the theft of a high-end Yamaha R15 motorcycle from the area near the lecturers’ quarters. The investigation subsequently revealed links to other vehicle theft incidents, prompting police to widen their search.

Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Krishnadhan Sarkar, said the stolen motorcycle, bearing registration number TR 01X 9688, was reported missing, following which Sub-Inspector Ranjit Das and his team immediately initiated an investigation. Police personnel gathered information from local sources and conducted searches to trace the missing vehicle and identify those involved.

During the investigation, police received information that two suspects were travelling towards the airport area on the allegedly stolen motorcycle. Acting on the information, a police team was deployed and intercepted the vehicle at Natunnagar.

Two juveniles, reportedly aged between 15 and 16 years, were found in possession of the motorcycle. The recovered Yamaha R15 is estimated to be worth more than Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Further investigation led police to another stolen vehicle, a scooter bearing registration number TR 01AW 4560. The scooter was recovered with assistance from Narsingarh Police Station as the investigation expanded to cover additional theft incidents.

Police subsequently identified the alleged involvement of two more juveniles, taking the total number of apprehended minors in connection with the cases to four. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the thefts and whether the incidents are connected.

The investigation also uncovered links to a separate vehicle theft reported around the time of Dashami. In that incident, an electric rickshaw, commonly known locally as a ‘tomtom’, was stolen along with another scooter in a separate case. With assistance from local residents and the night patrol team, police traced and recovered the vehicles.

Officials said the recovered vehicles were subsequently returned to their rightful owners, providing relief to those affected by the thefts.

In another development, police recovered a KTM motorcycle that had been stolen earlier. The vehicle was traced during a separate police operation on the eve of Dashami.

Altogether, the investigations resulted in the recovery of four vehicles: two motorcycles, one scooter and one electric rickshaw. Police said the coordinated efforts of personnel from different police stations, local residents and night patrol teams helped advance the investigations and trace the stolen property.

Cases have been registered in connection with the incidents, and the apprehended juveniles will be produced before the appropriate court in accordance with established legal procedures.

Police officials said further investigations are underway to determine whether other individuals were involved and whether the juveniles have any connection with additional unsolved vehicle theft cases in Agartala.

The police operation highlights the importance of prompt reporting, coordination between police stations and cooperation from local residents in recovering stolen vehicles. Authorities are continuing their efforts to establish the full circumstances of the incidents and identify any further links between the cases.

As the investigation proceeds, police have emphasised that the legal process will be followed in handling the juveniles and determining responsibility in accordance with the applicable law.
