Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to inaugurate Agartala’s Light House Housing Project on October 29 or 30, 2026. The first phase will provide 267 affordable flats to beneficiaries, with prices starting at Rs. 5 lakh.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to visit Agartala to inaugurate the Light House Housing Project, where the first batch of affordable flats is ready for distribution among beneficiaries. Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha is also expected to attend the inauguration ceremony.

According to officials of the Urban Development Department, the inauguration is likely to take place on October 29 or 30, although the final date has not yet been confirmed.

The first phase of the project will involve the distribution of 267 flats. Keys will be handed over to selected beneficiaries who have been waiting for the completion of the affordable housing initiative. The project aims to provide housing at subsidised prices to eligible families under the Light House Housing Project.

Officials said the remaining flats are expected to be completed and distributed within the next three months, subject to applicable rules and procedures. Around 200 additional beneficiaries are reportedly on the waiting list to benefit from the housing scheme.

The project offers different pricing structures according to beneficiary categories. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) beneficiaries will be able to obtain a flat for Rs. 5 lakh, while the cost for beneficiaries in other eligible categories will be approximately Rs. 7 lakh. Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable booking fee of Rs. 5,000 to enrol in the scheme.

The upcoming distribution is expected to provide relief to families seeking affordable housing in Agartala, particularly those who have been awaiting the completion of the project.

However, the housing initiative has faced delays on several occasions. The implementing agency reportedly missed its deadlines multiple times, postponing the project’s completion and the handover of flats to beneficiaries.

The proposed inauguration by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, in the presence of the Tripura Chief Minister, is expected to mark an important stage in moving the project towards the delivery of completed housing units.

The Light House Housing Project is part of efforts to expand access to affordable urban housing. The first-phase handover of 267 flats will begin the process of providing homes to selected applicants, while the remaining units are expected to be distributed in the coming months.

Beneficiaries will receive their flats according to the eligibility criteria and applicable procedures. The final inauguration date and further details regarding the distribution programme are awaited from the authorities.

With the first batch of flats ready, applicants are looking forward to the formal handover and the opportunity to move into their new homes. The completion and distribution of the remaining units will be important for addressing the waiting list and ensuring that eligible families can benefit from the scheme.
