Tripura government has notified the final reservation of 15 Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) wards for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women. Published in the Tripura Gazette on October 16, the order marks a key step towards preparations for upcoming urban local body elections.
The Tripura government has notified the final reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and women across 15 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), according to an order published in an extraordinary issue of the Tripura Gazette on October 16, 2026.
The notification was issued by the District Municipal Election Officer, who also serves as the District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, under the provisions of the Tripura Municipal (Delimitation of Constituencies) Rules, 1994. The order forms part of the administrative preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections in the state.
According to the notification, each of the 15 wards will elect one member. The reservation schedule identifies wards earmarked for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, as well as seats reserved for women under the SC, ST and general categories.
As specified in the order, Wards 1, 4, 7 and 15 have been reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. Among these, Ward 4 has been designated for women belonging to the Scheduled Caste category, while Ward 7 has also been earmarked for SC women.
The notification further identifies several wards as unreserved seats for women under the general category. These include Wards 2, 5, 8, 11, 12 and 14.
The final reservation order was issued after the authorities invited objections and suggestions on a draft reservation proposal prepared in Form E. According to the notification, submissions received within the prescribed seven-day period were considered before the final schedule was published.
Following this process, the authorities issued the final order in Form F under Rules 3A and 4 of the Tripura Municipal (Delimitation of Constituencies) Rules, 1994.
The notification was signed by Dr Vishal Kumar, IAS, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura. The order formally establishes the reservation arrangements covered by the published schedule.
The reservation of municipal wards is an important administrative step in the preparation for civic elections, as it determines the categories eligible to contest from the designated seats. The arrangements also provide for representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women within the municipal electoral framework.
