The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for four Tripura districts as heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over the next three days. Chawmanu recorded the highest rainfall, while authorities warned of waterlogging, localized flooding, and landslide risks across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for four districts of Tripura as the state continues to experience widespread monsoon rainfall, with heavy to very heavy showers expected over the next three days. The warning comes after several areas recorded significant rainfall on Wednesday, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruptions, localized flooding, and possible landslides in vulnerable hilly regions.

According to the latest rainfall data released by the IMD, Chawmanu in Dhalai district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 139.2 mm. Other areas that witnessed substantial precipitation included Ambassa with 110.6 mm, Lembuchhera with 105.5 mm, Gandachherra with 102.5 mm, and the District Magistrate’s Office in Agartala with 102 mm.

In West Tripura district, rainfall remained widespread throughout the day. The Secretariat recorded 95.5 mm of rainfall, while Agartala Airport received 88.5 mm. Hezamara registered 82.8 mm and Howrah recorded 81.8 mm, indicating persistent monsoon activity across the district.

Dhalai district remained one of the worst-affected regions, with Ambassa, Gandachherra, and Manughat receiving heavy showers. Kamalpur recorded 36 mm of rainfall, while Chhailengta surprisingly reported no rainfall, highlighting the uneven distribution of monsoon precipitation across the state.

Unakoti district also witnessed significant rainfall. Kumarghat received 92.5 mm, followed by Nidebi with 85.2 mm, Kailashahar with 58.8 mm, and Dashamighat and Nutanbazar with 46.2 mm each.

In South Tripura, Sabroom recorded 87 mm of rainfall, while Bokafa received 56.2 mm, Belonia 53.4 mm, and Rajnagar 19.4 mm. North Tripura experienced moderate rainfall, with Kadamtala and Churaibari each recording 58.5 mm, Panisagar 56.5 mm, and Ashapara 49.5 mm.

Khowai district received rainfall ranging between 28.4 mm and 55.5 mm, while Gomati district recorded 55.6 mm at Amarpur and 45.6 mm at Udaipur. In comparison, Sepahijala district witnessed relatively lighter rainfall, with Bishalgarh receiving just 2.4 mm and Sonamura Mohanbhog recording 39.6 mm.

The IMD has forecast that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue across Tripura over the coming days. An Orange Alert has been issued for West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai, and Gomati districts, where isolated places are expected to receive intense rainfall. The remaining districts have been placed under a Yellow Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

According to the weather forecast, all eight districts of Tripura will remain under a Yellow Warning on the following day. On the third day, heavy rainfall is expected over West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura, prompting authorities to closely monitor the evolving weather situation.

Meteorologists attributed the prevailing weather conditions to a seasonal trough extending from southwest Rajasthan to northeast Bangladesh. The system is associated with a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh. In addition, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is enhancing moisture incursion into the region, leading to widespread rainfall across Tripura.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying, flood-prone, and landslide-susceptible areas, to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. The IMD has cautioned that localized flooding, waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to normal life may occur as intermittent heavy showers continue over the next several days.

Emergency response agencies and district administrations have also been asked to remain prepared to respond swiftly to any weather-related incidents, while residents have been urged to follow official weather updates and safety advisories issued by the authorities.
