Parents of an underage boy were fined Rs 25,000 by Tripura Traffic Police after the juvenile was caught rashly riding a motorcycle on city roads. Action was taken under Section 199A of the amended Motor Vehicles Act, reinforcing strict enforcement against juvenile driving.

In a strong message against juvenile driving and road safety violations, the Traffic Police in Tripura imposed a Rs 25,000 fine on the parents of an underage boy who was caught riding a motorcycle recklessly on the busy streets of the city. The action was taken on Sunday under the provisions of the amended Motor Vehicles Act, which prescribes stringent penalties for allowing minors to operate motor vehicles.

According to police sources, traffic personnel intercepted a two-wheeler bearing registration number TR01AN7801 after noticing the rider driving in a rash and dangerous manner. During verification, officers found that the rider was a juvenile, below the legally permissible age for holding a driving licence.

As per Indian traffic regulations, individuals below 18 years of age are not eligible to obtain a driving licence for motorcycles and are prohibited from riding motor vehicles on public roads. The violation prompted immediate action by the traffic authorities.

Following the interception, the motorcycle was impounded by the police. The parents of the juvenile were subsequently summoned to the police station, where a penalty of Rs 25,000 was imposed on the registered vehicle owner in accordance with Section 199A of the amended Motor Vehicles Act.

Police identified the person fined as Chandana Rudra Paul, wife of Arun Paul, who is the registered owner of the motorcycle. Officials stated that the law clearly holds parents, guardians and registered vehicle owners accountable if they knowingly permit a minor to drive a motor vehicle.

Apart from the hefty financial penalty, Section 199A also provides for imprisonment ranging from two to three months for parents, guardians or vehicle owners found responsible for allowing underage driving. Authorities reiterated that these stringent provisions were introduced to curb the growing menace of juvenile driving and to enhance road safety across the country.

The traffic challan was officially undersigned by Laljuithara Darlong, Inspector of West Agartala Police Station, who supervised the legal proceedings.

Traffic officials have urged parents and guardians to strictly ensure that minors do not drive motorcycles or other motor vehicles before reaching the legal age. They warned that permitting underage driving not only violates the law but also endangers the lives of the rider, passengers and other road users.
