A father was arrested in Tripura’s Dhalai district after allegedly beating his two children to death following a domestic dispute at a Bru rehabilitation village. Police arrested the accused, launched a forensic investigation, and are probing the shocking double murder case.
A horrifying incident has sent shockwaves across Tripura after a father was arrested for allegedly beating his two minor children to death following a domestic quarrel at a Bru rehabilitation village in the Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district.
According to police, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning at Ultachhara Bru Rehabilitation Village under the Gandacherra subdivision. The accused, identified as Lalchunaoma Bru (34), allegedly attacked his children with a wooden piece during a violent altercation with his wife.
The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Rishika Kha Hamti Bru and four-year-old Prih Smaina Bru, who reportedly died on the spot after suffering severe injuries.
Police said the incident unfolded after an argument broke out between Lalchunaoma Bru and his wife, Rantarung Bru (32), inside their residence. Preliminary findings suggest that the accused was under the influence of alcohol when the dispute escalated.
Investigators said the two children began crying during the heated exchange between their parents. Enraged by the situation, the accused allegedly picked up a piece of wood and repeatedly assaulted both children, causing fatal injuries. The brutal attack claimed the lives of the siblings before any medical assistance could reach them.
Following information from local residents, personnel from Gandacherra Police Station rushed to the village and immediately took the accused into custody. The bodies of the deceased children were recovered for further legal procedures.
Senior police officials, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Gandacherra and the Officer-in-Charge of Gandacherra Police Station, visited the crime scene to supervise the investigation and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have informed a forensic team to examine the scene of the crime and collect scientific evidence that could assist in the ongoing investigation. Authorities said all necessary legal procedures are being followed, and the accused remains in police custody.
Officials stated that the situation in the rehabilitation village is under control despite widespread grief and shock among local residents. The deaths of the two children have left the community devastated, with neighbours expressing disbelief over the brutal act.
Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation to determine the complete sequence of events leading to the double child murder. Authorities are also examining all relevant evidence and witness statements before presenting the accused before the court.
