Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that tourism projects worth nearly ₹550 crore are currently underway across the state and assured that all ongoing projects would be completed before the next Assembly elections.

Addressing reporters at the Civil Secretariat, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening tourism infrastructure and transforming Tripura into a major tourist destination in the Northeast. He stated that significant progress has already been achieved in several flagship projects, while the remaining works are being expedited to ensure timely completion.

Among the major initiatives, the Chabimura tourism development project has emerged as one of the most important ventures. Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the project carries an estimated cost of ₹68.80 crore. According to Chowdhury, the project is expected to receive its final shape by November this year.

The minister informed reporters that he personally visited the Chabimura project site last week to assess the pace of work. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he said the project is moving ahead as planned and is likely to become a major attraction for domestic and international tourists once completed.

Later in the day, Chowdhury chaired an important review meeting at the Secretariat to evaluate the status of several key tourism development projects being implemented across the state. During the meeting, officials presented updates on various ongoing works and discussed measures to accelerate project execution.

The projects reviewed included the construction of replicas of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Bonduar in Udaipur, which is expected to become a significant spiritual tourism destination. The minister also reviewed the enhancement of tourism infrastructure at Chabimura and examined progress in the development of tourism facilities surrounding the Kasbeswari Kamalasagar Kali Bari and the historic Chaturdasha Devata Temple.

Officials informed the minister about the current stage of implementation, pending works, and challenges faced during project execution. Chowdhury instructed concerned departments and agencies to maintain quality standards while ensuring that deadlines are met.

In a separate meeting held at the Secretariat, the Tourism Minister reviewed the progress of major tourism and recreation projects being developed at Sachindranagar in Jirania. These projects include the proposed Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeet Experience, both of which are expected to showcase the rich cultural and historical heritage of the state.

Another major attraction under development is a modern amusement park designed on the lines of Kolkata’s famous Nicco Park. The project aims to provide world-class recreational facilities and create new opportunities for tourism-based economic growth and employment generation.

During the review session, Chowdhury discussed various implementation-related issues with officials and project stakeholders. He closely examined the pace of construction and issued several suggestions and directives to ensure faster completion of the projects.

The minister reiterated that the state government is giving top priority to tourism sector development, considering its immense potential to generate employment, boost local businesses, and attract investment. He expressed confidence that the completion of these projects before the Assembly elections would significantly enhance Tripura’s tourism landscape and strengthen its position as a prominent destination in Northeast India.
