Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tripura on June 5 to review border security and infrastructure along the Bangladesh frontier, following inspections in Rajasthan and Gujarat as the Centre intensifies monitoring of eastern international border areas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura on June 5 to assess the security situation along the international border with Bangladesh as part of a broader nationwide review of border management and surveillance systems.

Officials said the visit is aimed at evaluating security preparedness, fencing projects, and infrastructure development in sensitive border regions. During the Tripura tour, Shah is expected to interact with senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF), state administration, and other agencies responsible for maintaining vigilance along the frontier.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometre international border with Bangladesh, much of which passes through remote and difficult terrain. The region has long remained strategically important due to concerns related to infiltration, smuggling, and cross-border criminal activities. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been working on strengthening fencing, surveillance systems, and border roads in the state to improve operational efficiency.

After completing the Tripura visit, the Home Minister is expected to travel to West Bengal later in June for another detailed review of border security arrangements. West Bengal shares a 2,217-kilometre border with Bangladesh, making it the longest international boundary shared by any Indian state with the neighbouring country.

Sources said the eastern border review comes amid ongoing efforts by the Centre to modernize border management systems and increase coordination between state governments and central security agencies. Several stretches along the Bangladesh border still include non-feasible gaps and areas where fencing work is under progress.

Before visiting Tripura and West Bengal, Shah will begin his border inspection programme in Rajasthan. He is scheduled to visit the BSF border outpost at Sanchu in Bikaner, where he will attend the ‘Prahari Sammelan’ and virtually inaugurate newly constructed barracks for women personnel deployed in border areas.

Senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, BSF leadership, and representatives from districts bordering Pakistan are expected to participate in the review meetings in Rajasthan. The discussions will focus on operational readiness, border surveillance technology, and welfare facilities for security personnel stationed in challenging environments.

On May 29, Shah will continue his inspection exercise in Gujarat with a visit to Bhuj, where he is scheduled to inspect another BSF border outpost. The multi-state border review initiative highlights the Centre’s continued emphasis on strengthening national security and improving border infrastructure across strategically important regions of the country.
