Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) signed an MoU with Transrural Consulting Pvt. Ltd. to conduct an impact study on financial literacy programmes for Self-Help Groups. The assessment aims to strengthen financial inclusion, improve rural women’s livelihoods, and enhance future financial literacy interventions across Tripura.

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has taken a significant step towards strengthening financial inclusion and improving livelihood opportunities for rural women by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transrural Consulting Private Limited to conduct a comprehensive impact study on its financial literacy initiatives. The agreement was signed on July 28, 2026, marking a major initiative to evaluate the effectiveness of financial literacy programmes implemented under TRLM for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and their members across the state.

Under the terms of the agreement, Transrural Consulting Private Limited has been appointed as the Technical Support Agency responsible for carrying out the impact assessment. The study will examine how financial literacy training provided under TRLM has influenced the financial knowledge, awareness, decision-making abilities, and financial behaviour of SHG members, particularly women in rural areas.

Officials said the assessment is aimed at measuring the overall effectiveness of financial literacy interventions implemented through the mission. It will evaluate whether the training has enabled beneficiaries to better manage household finances, improve savings habits, access formal banking services, utilise government financial schemes, and make informed financial decisions that contribute to sustainable livelihoods.

The impact study is also expected to identify the strengths of the existing financial literacy programmes while highlighting gaps and challenges that may require policy attention. Based on the findings, recommendations will be prepared to further improve future financial literacy initiatives and ensure that they address the evolving financial needs of rural communities more effectively.

According to TRLM officials, empowering women through financial education remains one of the mission’s key priorities. Self-Help Groups have played a vital role in promoting economic independence among rural women by encouraging savings, entrepreneurship, and access to credit. Strengthening financial literacy among SHG members is considered essential for ensuring that these groups are able to manage financial resources efficiently and make informed economic decisions.

The partnership with Transrural Consulting Pvt. Ltd. reflects TRLM’s commitment to adopting evidence-based approaches for programme improvement. By engaging an independent Technical Support Agency, the mission aims to obtain a detailed assessment of the outcomes of its financial literacy initiatives and use the findings to design more effective interventions in the future.

Officials further stated that the study will generate valuable insights into the overall impact of financial literacy on women’s financial empowerment, social inclusion, and livelihood enhancement. The assessment is also expected to contribute to strengthening financial inclusion by encouraging greater participation of rural women in formal financial systems and promoting responsible financial management practices.

The initiative aligns with TRLM’s broader objective of promoting sustainable rural livelihoods through capacity building, skill development, and inclusive economic growth. Over the years, the mission has implemented several programmes focused on empowering rural communities, particularly women, through Self-Help Groups that serve as important platforms for financial and social development.

The findings of the impact study are expected to guide future policy decisions, improve programme implementation strategies, and help TRLM expand the reach and effectiveness of financial literacy interventions across Tripura. Officials believe that the assessment will not only strengthen ongoing initiatives but also contribute to building financially empowered rural communities capable of achieving long-term economic stability and sustainable development.
