India extended its impressive campaign at the U23 Asian Championships with a remarkable medal-winning performance on the second day of the competition at the Tien Son Sport Center on Sunday. Indian wrestlers secured a total of eight medals, including three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, highlighting the country’s growing dominance in Asian wrestling.
The standout performers of the day were Mansi Lather, Kajal, and Sumit, all of whom delivered commanding victories in their respective finals to secure gold medals for India.
Competing in the women’s 68kg category, Mansi Lather produced a dominant performance against Uzbekistan’s Firuza Esenbaeva. The Indian wrestler controlled the bout from the beginning and sealed a convincing 14-1 victory to claim the gold medal. Her aggressive approach and technical superiority left little room for her opponent to recover.
Kajal was equally impressive in the women’s 76kg final, where she completely outclassed Kyrgyzstan’s Aizharkyn Zhanybekova. The Indian grappler registered a clinical 10-0 victory without conceding a single point, underlining her authority in the division and earning India another gold medal.
In the Greco-Roman category, Sumit added to India’s golden tally with a powerful display in the 63kg final. Facing Uzbekistan’s Ozodbek Khalilboev, Sumit showcased excellent technique and attacking precision to secure a dominant 12-2 win and finish on top of the podium.
India also collected two silver medals through strong performances from Sweety and Neha. Sweety fought a closely contested final against Vietnam’s Ngoc L. Do but narrowly lost 5-7, settling for silver after a determined effort. Neha, competing in the 59kg category, also displayed resilience before going down 9-5 to Uzbekistan’s Laylokhon Sobirova in the title clash.
The bronze medal winners added further strength to India’s medal tally. Ahilya S. Shinde delivered an outstanding performance in her playoff match, defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Arruke Kadyrbek Kyzy by a dominant 13-2 margin.
