Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha announced recruitment for 218 Sub-Inspectors and 916 constables while highlighting police modernisation, women empowerment, cybercrime preparedness, and Tripura becoming the first state to launch the “Track Me” feature in the 112 India Application.

A major expansion of the police force in Tripura is set to begin soon as the state government prepares to launch the recruitment process for 218 Sub-Inspectors in the Tripura Police. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Manik Saha during the Passing Out Parade of the 91st and 92nd Batch of Recruit Constables (Men and Women) held at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy on Thursday.

The Chief Minister also declared that the state government has already approved the recruitment of an additional 916 police constables and the process for these appointments would also begin shortly. The announcement comes as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen law enforcement capabilities and modernise the policing system across the state.

Addressing the newly-trained recruits, Dr. Saha said the government remains committed to building a modern, disciplined and people-friendly police force capable of serving society with integrity, courage and compassion. He stated that the role of police personnel has become increasingly important in maintaining law and order while also responding to new-age crimes and public safety challenges.

A total of 476 recruit constables formally joined the Tripura Police after successfully completing 11 months of intensive training at the academy. Among them, 318 were women and 158 were men, reflecting the growing participation of women in the state police force. Another 475 recruits underwent training at the R.K. Nagar TSR training centre.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister praised the discipline and performance of the trainees and highlighted the increasing representation of women in the police department. He said the presence of 318 women constables in the passing-out parade demonstrated the government’s commitment to women empowerment and inclusive development in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr. Saha stated that the government is fully committed to strengthening policing infrastructure and providing every necessary support for the modernisation of the police force. According to him, modern policing can no longer function effectively without the support of advanced technology, especially at a time when cybercrime and digital threats are rapidly increasing.

The Chief Minister urged the newly-inducted constables to continuously adapt themselves to emerging policing challenges and technological advancements. He stressed that police personnel must not only enforce the law strictly but also maintain a humane and sensitive attitude while interacting with the public.

Highlighting the importance of public trust, Dr. Saha said the newly-appointed constables must uphold the dignity of the uniform and work with honesty, discipline and courage. He expressed confidence that the recruits would play an important role in strengthening people’s faith in the police administration.

Special emphasis was also placed on ensuring the safety and security of women and children, which the Chief Minister described as one of the government’s top priorities. He said the police administration must remain alert and responsive to crimes targeting vulnerable groups and ensure quick delivery of justice.

The training programme for the recruits covered several critical areas of policing including traffic management, crowd control, disaster management, handling mob violence, tackling illegal activities and maintaining public order. The trainees were also given lessons on investigation techniques and weapon handling to prepare them for field responsibilities.

Dr. Saha further underlined the importance of familiarising police personnel with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing colonial-era criminal laws. He said a proper understanding and implementation of the new legal framework would be essential for effective policing in the coming years.

Referring to the long history of the police force, the Chief Minister noted that the Tripura Police has completed 150 years of service. He appealed to senior police officials and personnel to work collectively toward transforming the force into one of the most professional and efficient police organisations in the country.

In a significant technological development, Tripura has become the first state in India to enable the “Track Me” feature in the 112 India Application. The newly-added feature has been introduced as part of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) initiative and is expected to enhance the safety of women and elderly citizens.

The “Track Me” feature can be used by women, elderly persons or individuals travelling alone, especially during late hours or without an adult male companion. Through this facility, the ERSS Control Room can monitor the real-time movement of users via location sharing.

Officials said that in the event of danger or any hostile situation, users can press the emergency danger button on the application, allowing emergency response vehicles to immediately reach the location without delay. The Tripura Police ERSS team has already conducted successful testing of the feature.

Director General of Police Anurag said the recruits underwent comprehensive training in crowd management, disaster response, investigation procedures, law and order management and weapon maintenance during their training period.

Jayanta Chakraborty also addressed the passing-out parade and congratulated the newly-trained constables on successfully completing their training.
