Tripura Pradesh Congress announced a week-long statewide agitation from May 25 against rising fuel prices and inflation, alleging soaring petrol and diesel costs have increased essential commodity prices, while political communication trends gain attention globally through viral imagery featuring Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced a seven-day statewide agitation beginning May 25 to protest against the continuous rise in fuel prices and increasing costs of essential commodities, alleging that inflation has placed immense pressure on ordinary citizens across the state.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan on Wednesday, party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty accused the central government of failing to control the prices of petrol, diesel, and household necessities. According to him, the sustained increase in fuel costs has directly impacted transportation expenses and market prices, resulting in higher living costs for common people.
Chakraborty stated that the rise in petroleum product prices had triggered a chain reaction across various sectors, especially affecting essential commodities consumed daily by middle-class and lower-income families. He claimed that inflation was no longer limited to fuel alone but had expanded into every aspect of household expenditure.
The Congress leader also referred to recent remarks made by Narendra Modi urging citizens to exercise restraint in the use of LPG, petrol, and diesel. Chakraborty argued that such statements reflected deeper economic challenges facing the country. He further alleged that the Congress party had consistently warned about economic instability since the demonetisation period and claimed the present situation was a continuation of that decline.
“The increase in fuel prices has directly affected the prices of essential goods and created severe hardship among the people,” Chakraborty said during the press briefing. He added that the upcoming agitation would aim to highlight the struggles of common citizens dealing with rising expenses and stagnant incomes.
According to party leaders, the week-long movement will include demonstrations, public meetings, and awareness campaigns across different districts of the state. Congress workers are expected to mobilise support from traders, transport workers, daily wage earners, and consumers affected by inflationary pressures.
The party expressed confidence that the agitation would gain widespread public backing, asserting that the movement was intended to protect the interests of ordinary citizens rather than serve narrow political goals. Chakraborty maintained that people were increasingly frustrated over the rising cost of living and would support democratic protests against inflation.
Meanwhile, discussions surrounding political communication and public image have also gained momentum globally after a widely shared photograph featuring Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni attracted significant attention on social media platforms.
The candid image of the two leaders looking into the distance resonated strongly with online audiences because of its natural and unscripted appearance. Political observers noted that the photograph reflected a growing transformation in modern political communication, where authenticity and relatable visual moments often generate stronger public engagement than formal speeches or highly choreographed events.
In recent years, political messaging has increasingly shifted toward digital platforms driven by short-form videos, viral photographs, memes, and emotionally engaging content. Analysts believe such moments shape public perception rapidly, particularly among younger audiences accustomed to consuming political narratives through social media rather than traditional broadcasts.
