Union Minister Kiren Rijiju received a heartfelt welcome during his recent visit to North Sikkim, expressing deep appreciation for the warmth and hospitality extended by local communities. The visit to Mangan district highlighted not only cultural vibrancy but also the strengthening ties between central leadership and the Himalayan region.
Taking to the social media platform X, Rijiju shared his gratitude, noting that residents of Mangan, Lachung, and Lachen greeted him with genuine affection and enthusiasm. He described the region as a striking example of “strength and simplicity,” emphasizing the unique spirit that defines life in the high-altitude areas of Sikkim.
Accompanied by Sikkim minister Samdup Lepcha, senior government officials, local leaders, and renowned singer Mohit Chauhan, Rijiju’s visit showcased a blend of governance and cultural engagement. The presence of diverse stakeholders reflected a coordinated effort to strengthen development outreach and deepen connections with local populations.
The Union Minister also praised the cultural richness and peaceful atmosphere of North Sikkim, underlining how such visits play a crucial role in bridging the gap between policymakers and citizens. He emphasized that direct engagement fosters trust, enhances understanding of regional needs, and supports inclusive development strategies.
The visit comes at a time when Sikkim is gaining increasing attention for its strategic importance, particularly in terms of connectivity, tourism, and infrastructure expansion. Located in a sensitive Himalayan zone, the state plays a key role in India’s broader development vision for the Northeast.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sikkim and launched multiple development projects worth approximately ₹4,000 crore. Addressing a gathering at Paljor Stadium, he reiterated the government’s commitment to accelerating growth in the Northeast, referring to the region as India’s “Ashtalakshmi.”
