Residents of Acharya Para in Khowai sub-division protest irregular electricity supply, frequent outages, and unsafe power lines. Locals demand urgent government intervention, fair distribution, and permanent solutions to restore reliable power and prevent potential accidents.

Persistent disruptions in electricity supply have triggered strong resentment among residents of Acharya Para in the Singichhara area under Khowai sub-division, as daily life continues to be affected by prolonged outages and unreliable service.

According to local residents, the problem has been ongoing for a considerable period, with frequent load shedding and irregular power supply becoming a routine hardship. The situation has worsened despite the installation of a new feeder line, which reportedly became non-functional shortly after commissioning due to a short circuit. Since then, electricity has been routed through an older transmission line passing through a dense forest, exposing it to constant risks.

Residents say even minor weather disturbances such as light rain, moderate winds, or small storms lead to power failures. Falling tree branches often damage the vulnerable overhead lines, resulting in repeated blackouts. The impact is especially severe during nighttime and peak summer conditions, when the absence of electricity leaves households struggling with heat, darkness, and safety concerns.

The unreliable infrastructure has also raised fears of potential accidents. Locals have warned that the condition of the existing line is unsafe and could lead to serious incidents if not addressed urgently. Many families expressed anxiety over the possibility of electrical hazards due to exposed or weakened wiring in forested stretches.

Adding to the frustration, allegations have surfaced that certain influential individuals in the same locality are benefiting from uninterrupted electricity supply through separate, dedicated lines. This perceived disparity has fueled anger among general consumers, who continue to endure repeated outages without any relief.

Despite multiple verbal complaints made to the Electricity Department, residents claim that no concrete or long-term solution has been implemented so far. The lack of response has led to growing dissatisfaction and a sense of neglect among the affected population.

In response to the ongoing crisis, a delegation of residents submitted a formal memorandum to the Senior Manager of the Electricity Department on Monday. The memorandum called for immediate intervention and demanded a permanent solution to restore stable and reliable electricity services in Acharya Para.

Residents have urged authorities to repair or replace the damaged feeder line, clear vegetation around transmission routes, and ensure equal distribution of electricity without favoritism. They emphasized that uninterrupted power supply is essential not only for comfort but also for safety and basic living standards.

As the issue continues unresolved, the people of Acharya Para remain hopeful that their appeal will prompt swift action from the concerned department and bring an end to their prolonged suffering.
