Tripura student bodies protest alleged ADC job scam, accusing TTAADC of secret recruitment without notification. Youth leaders demand transparency as Tipra Motha suspends hiring process amid controversy over irregular appointments and favoritism allegations.

Allegations of irregular recruitment have sparked political tension in Tripura, as student and youth organisations demand transparency from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The controversy revolves around claims that a significant number of government posts were filled without following due procedure, raising questions about accountability and governance.

The issue came to the forefront after members of the Tripura Youth Federation (TYF) and the Tripura Students’ Union (TSU) addressed a press conference at the CPIM state office in Melarmath. Speaking to the media, Kumodh Debbarma, General Secretary of TYF, alleged that the TTAADC administration conducted a “quiet recruitment process” for approximately 120 posts, including Lower Division Clerk (LDC) positions.

According to Debbarma, information about the recruitment surfaced through print media reports and social media discussions, rather than official government channels. He claimed that offer letters had already been distributed to selected candidates, despite no formal notification, advertisement, or public announcement being issued beforehand. This lack of transparency, he argued, undermines the credibility of the recruitment process and raises serious concerns among job aspirants.

Debbarma further alleged that even grassroots workers and supporters of the ruling Tipra Motha party were unaware of the recruitment exercise. He pointed out that many party activists, who have been associated with the organisation since its formation in 2021 and contributed to its electoral success, were excluded from the process. The absence of official clarification from the TTAADC administration has only intensified public suspicion.

Adding to the controversy are claims that jobs were allegedly given to relatives and close associates of elected members and officials within the ADC. Debbarma stated that family members of MDCs, sub-zonal leaders, and even administrative officials were reportedly among those appointed, while deserving candidates were overlooked. He urged the administration to present verifiable evidence if the allegations are unfounded.

The criticism reflects a broader sentiment among sections of the public, who are now questioning the fairness and integrity of recruitment practices in the autonomous council. The issue has quickly gained political significance, with opposition groups using it to challenge the governance standards of the current administration.

Responding to the growing backlash, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the supremo of Tipra Motha, announced that the recruitment process has been put on hold. He stated that the decision was taken in light of the allegations and that the process would remain suspended until clarity is established. His statement signals an acknowledgment of the seriousness of the issue, though it has yet to fully address the concerns raised by critics.

Representatives from other organisations, including the Tribal Welfare Federation, were also present at the press conference, indicating a wider coalition of groups demanding accountability. The situation continues to evolve, with increased pressure on the TTAADC administration to provide a transparent explanation and restore public trust.
