Tripura Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury vows to strengthen public distribution system, ensuring transparency, efficient supply chains, and uninterrupted delivery of essential commodities including food grains, LPG, petrol, and diesel across the state for all citizens.
Efforts to reinforce the delivery of essential commodities across Tripura have taken center stage, as Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS). The renewed push aims to ensure uninterrupted access to food grains and other daily necessities for citizens across all socio-economic groups.
During a high-level review meeting at the state Secretariat, the minister highlighted the importance of building a more resilient, transparent, and people-oriented distribution network. Senior officials, including departmental heads and administrative authorities, participated in the discussion, focusing on current stock levels and supply chain efficiency.
Addressing the gathering, Chowdhury stressed that modernization and accountability remain key pillars in improving the system. He underlined the department’s ongoing efforts to eliminate inefficiencies and enhance monitoring mechanisms. According to him, the goal is not only to maintain adequate supplies but also to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives their rightful share without delays or discrepancies.
The review covered a wide range of essential commodities, including food grains, petrol, diesel, and LPG. Officials assessed existing distribution frameworks, particularly the functioning of ration shops, and explored strategies to improve accessibility for consumers. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening logistics and ensuring that supplies reach even the most remote areas without interruption.
Chowdhury directed authorities to adopt proactive measures to maintain sufficient reserves and to respond swiftly to any emerging shortages. He also called for stricter oversight of fair price shops to prevent malpractice and ensure equitable distribution. The minister made it clear that transparency and vigilance at every level of the supply chain are crucial for the system’s success.
The government’s focus on reinforcing the PDS comes amid broader efforts to safeguard consumer interests and stabilize supply chains. By prioritizing efficiency and accountability, the administration aims to build public trust while addressing the challenges posed by fluctuating demand and logistical constraints.
Officials present at the meeting expressed confidence that coordinated action and continuous monitoring would further enhance the system’s effectiveness. The department is also expected to adopt technological interventions to track inventory and distribution in real time, thereby minimizing leakages and improving service delivery.
