Political tensions rise in Tripura hills ahead of ADC polls as BJP intensifies campaign. Minister Bikash Debbarma leads massive rally, alleges violence by rivals, and calls for peaceful elections amid growing confrontations and shifting tribal voter support.

As the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council draw closer, political tensions are rapidly escalating across the hill regions of Tripura. With campaigning entering a decisive phase, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has significantly intensified its outreach efforts, expressing strong confidence in securing tribal voter support while simultaneously urging for peaceful and fair elections.

On Thursday, a massive political rally was organized in Mungiakami under the Teliamura constituency, drawing large crowds in support of BJP candidate Billu Jamatia. The procession commenced from Ramakrishnapur Shakti Kendra and passed through key areas of Mungiakami, transforming the locality into a vibrant political arena. Supporters carrying party flags and chanting slogans participated enthusiastically, creating an electrified yet festive atmosphere.

The rally was spearheaded by Bikash Debbarma, the state’s Minister for Tribal Welfare, who later addressed the media. He emphasized that the tribal population is increasingly aligning with development-focused governance and expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects. “The people’s interest in the triple-engine government is evident. BJP will win all 28 seats,” Debbarma stated.

However, the campaign has not been without controversy. Debbarma alleged that individuals linked to Tipra Motha Party have been involved in acts of violence, including attacks on BJP workers, vandalism of vehicles, and targeting of residences following the election announcement. He described these incidents as “terror politics,” claiming that such actions are being rejected by the public, leading to a shift in political allegiance toward the BJP.

Despite the growing confrontations and allegations, the minister reiterated the importance of maintaining democratic values. He stressed that elections must be conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner. “Democracy has no place for violence. We expect voting to take place in a healthy and secure environment,” he added.
