Tripura Cabinet approves free festive ration kits for 9.92 lakh beneficiaries, along with 1,061 teacher recruitments, 213 Agartala Municipal Corporation posts and the formation of the Tripura Staff Selection Commission to streamline government recruitment.

The Tripura government has approved a series of measures aimed at providing festive-season support to ration beneficiaries, strengthening the education sector and filling vacancies in different government departments. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Food and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said at a press conference on Wednesday.

One of the major decisions is the distribution of free festival ration kits to 9.92 lakh ration beneficiaries across the state ahead of Durga Puja. Under the special initiative, each eligible beneficiary will receive one kilogram of sugar, two kilograms of flour and 500 grams of semolina free of cost.

According to Chowdhury, the distribution is expected to begin around the middle of October, between Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja. The government will procure and distribute approximately 243 metric tonnes of semolina, 1,984 metric tonnes of flour and 992 metric tonnes of sugar under the scheme.

The estimated expenditure for the festive ration programme is expected to be between Rs 9.35 crore and Rs 9.85 crore. The Food and Tourism Minister said the special allocation has been approved with the objective of extending support to people during the festive season and easing household expenses.

The Cabinet also approved the recruitment of 1,061 teachers in the state education system. Of the total, 700 Graduate Teachers will be recruited through the Secondary Education Department for Classes IX and X.

The Elementary Education Department will recruit another 361 teachers, comprising 75 Graduate Teachers and 286 Under Graduate Teachers. The recruitment is expected to strengthen the teaching workforce and address vacancies in schools across Tripura.

In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved the filling of 213 posts of different categories in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) under the Urban Development Department. The vacancies cover technical, administrative and service-related positions, according to the Minister.

The state government has also decided to constitute the Tripura Staff Selection Commission (TSSC) to make recruitment to various state government departments more streamlined, transparent and organised. The proposed commission will conduct examinations and oversee the selection process for Group-B, Group-C and Group-D posts under the state government.

The Cabinet further approved an increase in the sitting allowance of the chairman and members of the Welfare Sub-Committee under the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. The allowance has been raised from Rs 100 to Rs 200 per meeting.
