TTAADC polls 2026 see 181 nominations accepted and 5 rejected after scrutiny. BJP, Tipra Motha, Congress, Left Front, and IPFT contest across 28 seats, with over 9.6 lakh voters set to shape Tripura’s tribal political future.
The scrutiny process for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded on Thursday, with 181 nominations accepted and five rejected, according to officials from the State Election Commission.
Addressing the media on Friday, Secretary of the Commission Anurag Sen confirmed that a total of 186 candidates had filed nominations, submitting 268 nomination papers overall. After thorough scrutiny by Returning Officers across constituencies, 181 nomination papers were declared valid, while five were rejected due to discrepancies in documentation and procedural lapses.
The election process is now entering a crucial phase, with March 28 set as the final date for withdrawal of nominations. Once this deadline passes, the Election Commission will publish the final list of candidates contesting in the polls, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in the tribal council.
Multi-Cornered Contest Across 28 Seats
The TTAADC elections are expected to witness a highly competitive contest, with major political parties fielding candidates across most constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tipra Motha have both fielded candidates in all 28 seats, indicating a direct face-off in every constituency.
Meanwhile, the Left Front has fielded candidates in 25 seats, while the Indian National Congress has submitted nominations for 27 seats. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is contesting in 24 constituencies, adding further complexity to the electoral dynamics.
Political observers note that the presence of multiple parties in nearly all seats is likely to fragment votes, making the outcome unpredictable and highly contested.
Clean Poll Environment So Far
Responding to concerns about election conduct, Anurag Sen stated that there have been no major complaints regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct so far. He emphasized that the Commission remains vigilant and is addressing any issues promptly to ensure free and fair elections.
“The situation is under control, and we are monitoring developments closely,” Sen said, adding that election authorities are committed to maintaining transparency and neutrality throughout the process.
Over 9.6 Lakh Voters to Decide Outcome
According to the final electoral roll released by the Election Commission, a total of 9,62,697 voters are eligible to cast their votes across the 28 ADC constituencies. This includes 4,82,025 male voters, 4,80,666 female voters, and six voters from the third gender category.
The nearly equal gender distribution among voters highlights the inclusive electoral participation in the tribal council polls. With a substantial voter base and multiple parties in the fray, the elections are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Tripura’s tribal regions.
