BJP plans solo contest in all 28 TTAADC seats as CM Manik Saha confirms candidate list awaiting central approval. Alliance dynamics shift with Tipra Motha and IPFT, raising prospects of post-poll alliances and competitive tribal council elections.

In a political move ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to contest all 28 seats independently. The announcement comes amid shifting alliance equations within the ruling coalition and signals a strategic recalibration by the party in the tribal council polls.

Addressing media persons at the party headquarters, Saha stated that a tentative list of candidates has already been finalized during a core committee meeting. The list, however, is pending approval from the BJP’s central leadership in New Delhi. Once the high command gives its green signal, the official list of candidates is expected to be released shortly.

“The members of the core committee, senior leaders, tribal representatives, and invitee-members were part of the crucial meeting. After extensive discussions, we have prepared a tentative list which will now be sent to Delhi. Following approval, we will make it public,” Saha said, indicating that the announcement could come as early as Tuesday.

BJP’s Solo Strategy Amid Alliance Shifts

The Chief Minister’s statement effectively puts an end to speculation about possible seat-sharing arrangements within the ruling alliance. Currently, the coalition includes the Tipra Motha and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura alongside the BJP. However, recent developments suggest that alliance partners are increasingly opting to contest elections independently.

Explaining the rationale behind BJP’s decision to go solo, Saha highlighted differing expectations among alliance partners. “Every party has its own set of aspirations. Sometimes these expectations do not align. Since most parties have decided to contest independently, we are also preparing for a healthy and competitive election,” he noted.

IPFT’s Move Raises Questions

The Chief Minister also addressed the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura’s recent move to declare candidates without prior consultation. He confirmed that discussions have been initiated with IPFT leaders to understand their position.

“We have asked them why such a step was taken without discussions. However, the door for dialogue and a constructive exchange of views remains open,” Saha added, suggesting that the alliance has not completely broken down.

Possibility of Post-Poll Alliances

Despite the BJP’s decision to contest alone, Saha did not rule out the possibility of post-election alliances. Drawing parallels with past political developments, he referred to the 2023 scenario when BJP and Tipra Motha contested separately but later reached a mutual understanding.

“Politics is dynamic. What happens after the elections cannot be predicted at this stage. Similar alignments may emerge depending on the situation,” he remarked.

Focus on Performance and Stability

Downplaying concerns about internal differences within the ruling bloc, Saha emphasized the party’s focus on delivering strong electoral performance. He urged stakeholders to move beyond past disagreements and concentrate on future goals.

“Let us not dwell on what has happened. We are looking ahead with a positive approach,” he said confidently.

The BJP leadership believes that its organizational strength and governance record will play a decisive role in the TTAADC elections. With the final candidate list awaiting approval, the coming days are expected to be crucial in shaping the political landscape of Tripura’s tribal regions.
