India AI Impact Summit 2026 begins with over 80 foreign leaders and 500 global AI pioneers, marking a historic Global South gathering to advance inclusive growth, responsible innovation, and sustainable development through transformative artificial intelligence collaboration.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 commenced on Monday with unprecedented global participation, bringing together more than 80 foreign leaders and over 500 global artificial intelligence experts in what is being described as the largest AI-focused gathering ever hosted in the Global South. The five-day summit, which will continue until February 20, is positioning India at the forefront of responsible and inclusive AI development on the world stage.

Hosted at the iconic Bharat Mandapam, the summit has drawn participation from over 100 government representatives, including more than 20 heads of state and government, as well as 60 Ministers and Vice Ministers from across continents. The event marks a defining moment in global technology diplomacy, with developing nations taking center stage in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

On February 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address, outlining India’s strategic vision for inclusive, ethical, and development-driven AI. His speech is expected to emphasize international cooperation, digital sovereignty, and AI governance frameworks that prioritize public welfare over profit.

A Landmark Summit for the Global South

This is the first time a global AI convening of such magnitude is being organized in the Global South. Leaders, policymakers, CEOs, founders, researchers, academicians, chief technology officers, philanthropic organizations, and multilateral institutions have assembled to deliberate on how artificial intelligence can advance inclusive growth, strengthen public systems, and enable sustainable development.

Industry analysts say the summit underscores India’s growing credibility as a trusted technology partner capable of balancing innovation with regulation. Discussions throughout the week will focus on AI safety, governance standards, ethical frameworks, equitable access to computing infrastructure, and collaborative research initiatives across emerging economies.

Flagship Global Impact Challenges Take Center Stage

A major highlight of the summit is the culmination of three flagship Global Impact Challenges — AI for ALL, AI by HER, and YUVAi. These initiatives were launched to accelerate scalable and high-impact AI solutions aligned with national priorities and global development goals.

The response has been overwhelming. More than 4,650 applications were received from over 60 countries, reflecting strong international engagement and reaffirming India’s emergence as a global hub for responsible AI innovation.

After a rigorous multi-stage evaluation led by domain experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, the top 70 finalist teams have been selected across the three categories. These finalists will showcase their solutions during the Grand Finale and Awards Felicitation Ceremony on February 16 and 17 at Bharat Mandapam and Sushma Swaraj Bhawan.

The selected innovators will interact with global policymakers, investors, academia, and industry leaders, opening doors for funding opportunities and ecosystem support to scale their solutions nationally and internationally.

Research Symposium Strengthens Academic Collaboration

Another key component of the summit is the Research Symposium on AI and Its Impact, organized in partnership with Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad on February 18.

The symposium has received approximately 250 research submissions from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, highlighting growing academic engagement from emerging regions. It serves as the principal academic platform of the summit, focusing on AI-driven scientific discovery, governance mechanisms, safety protocols, and equitable research collaboration.

The event is being attended by Alar Karis and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, reinforcing the high-level political and diplomatic importance of the gathering.

Experts at the symposium are expected to deliberate on critical issues such as algorithmic transparency, data sovereignty, bias mitigation, and expanding computational access for researchers in developing economies.

India’s Emerging Leadership in Responsible AI

With participation spanning governments, industry giants, startups, and research institutions, the India AI Impact Summit 2026 represents a strategic push to ensure that artificial intelligence remains a force for inclusive prosperity rather than deepening digital divides.

Observers note that by hosting such a large-scale AI summit in the Global South, India is reshaping global technology narratives. Instead of being mere adopters of innovation, developing nations are asserting their role as co-creators of global AI governance frameworks.

As the summit progresses, stakeholders anticipate policy announcements, cross-border partnerships, funding commitments, and collaborative agreements that could define the next decade of AI development.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is not just a technology event — it is a geopolitical and developmental milestone, signaling a shift in how artificial intelligence is debated, governed, and deployed across the world.
