Assam Rifles and DRI seize 4.5 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 45 crore in a major anti-drug operation near Gen A. Mungiakami. One arrested as authorities intensify crackdown on narcotics trafficking in Northeast India.

The Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) jointly seized Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 45 crore in the black market. The high-value consignment was intercepted during a well-coordinated operation based on specific intelligence inputs.

According to official sources, the joint team stopped a TATA truck bearing registration number AS 01T C7674 near Gen A. Mungiakami. Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, security personnel discovered an astonishing 4.5 lakh Yaba tablets concealed within the truck. Yaba, a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, is a highly addictive synthetic drug widely trafficked across Northeast India due to its proximity to international borders.

The truck driver, identified as Hafijul Hoque (42), a resident of Udalguri district in Assam, was immediately taken into custody at the scene. Officials confirmed that both the seized contraband and the accused have been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Authorities described the operation as a decisive blow to organized drug syndicates operating in the region. The Northeast has increasingly become a transit corridor for narcotics smuggling, prompting security agencies to intensify surveillance and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.

Officials emphasized that the success of this operation highlights strong inter-agency coordination and vigilance. By intercepting such a large consignment, law enforcement agencies have not only disrupted a major trafficking network but also prevented the potential distribution of harmful substances into local communities.

Security forces reiterated their commitment to combating the drug menace and warned traffickers of continued strict enforcement measures. Enhanced monitoring of vulnerable routes and border areas is expected to continue in the coming months as part of a broader anti-narcotics strategy.

The seizure underscores the government’s firm resolve to dismantle drug syndicates and safeguard public health from the devastating consequences of substance abuse.
