CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury announces Left Front will contest all 28 seats in upcoming TTAADC elections, raises concerns over free and fair polls, and criticises BJP–Tipra Motha alliance in Tripura.
Tripura Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday announced that the Left Front will contest the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections with full strength, fielding candidates in all 28 constituencies.
Speaking to reporters at the CPI(M) state headquarters, Chaudhury said the party was fully prepared to take on the electoral challenge and viewed the polls as an opportunity to reconnect with the people. He emphasised that elections are not merely about winning or losing but also about engaging with the masses and raising awareness on political and governance issues.
“We will definitely contest the elections with full strength, and candidates will be fielded in all the 28 seats. Success and defeats are part of politics, but every election provides a chance to reconnect with the people. Most importantly, it becomes a platform to educate a larger population about the present political establishment and how its policies affect their daily lives,” Chaudhury said.
However, the CPI(M) leader expressed serious concerns over whether the elections would be conducted in a free and fair manner. He pointed out that local-level democratic processes in the state had already suffered significant delays.
“The Village Committee elections are long overdue. The state government was intentionally avoiding those polls. In the case of the TTAADC, constitutional obligations are involved, and the entire election process must be completed by April 10, 2026. Whether the polls will be free and fair, I am not in a position to say at this moment,” he added.
Chaudhury also commented on the ongoing political tension between ruling allies Tipra Motha and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dismissing the public display of discord, he alleged that the conflict was staged to mislead the electorate.
“The strains we are seeing between Tipra Motha and the BJP are artificial in nature. They are fighting each other only to divert public attention. If Tipra Motha is genuinely unhappy with the BJP and wants to oppose it politically, it should walk out of the alliance,” he said.

Using a sharp metaphor, the CPI(M) leader compared the alliance partners to actors performing a scripted drama. “Both parties are behaving like actors in a theatre company—playing antagonists and protagonists on stage, and once the drama is over, they relax together in the green room,” he remarked.
The Left Front’s announcement signals an aggressive political push ahead of the TTAADC elections, with the CPI(M) aiming to regain influence in Tripura’s tribal politics amid shifting alliances and growing public scrutiny of the ruling establishment.
