Rajib Bhattacharjee extends New Year 2026 greetings, highlights Tripura government welfare initiatives, rural employment reforms, women empowerment, youth jobs, and inclusive development aligned with Viksit Bharat vision and BJP governance priorities.
Tripura BJP president and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday extended warm greetings and congratulations to the people of Tripura on the occasion of the English New Year 2026, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to welfare-driven and inclusive development.
Addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters, Bhattacharjee reflected on the government’s performance over the past year and outlined priorities for 2026. He was accompanied by senior party leaders, including vice-presidents Subal Bhowmik, Papia Dutta, Bimal Kanti Chakma and Tapas Bhattacharjee, general secretaries Bipin Debbarma and Amit Rakshit, and State Media In-Charge Sunit Sarkar.
While conveying New Year wishes, Bhattacharjee said the guiding vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat — Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura” has remained central to the government’s policy-making and governance throughout 2025. He asserted that the Tripura government, under the leadership of the BJP, has consistently worked to ensure that development benefits reach the last mile, especially the marginalized and economically weaker sections of society.
He emphasized that the state’s developmental roadmap aligns with the national objective of building a “Viksit Bharat” or Developed India. According to Bhattacharjee, the government’s focus in 2026 will be on expanding access to welfare schemes, improving service delivery, and creating more opportunities for employment and self-reliance across all social groups.
Highlighting legislative developments at the national level, Bhattacharjee drew attention to the achievements of the central government during the 2025 winter session of Parliament. He noted that eight important bills were introduced, reflecting the government’s commitment to economic reforms, social security, and cooperative federalism. Among these were the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill, 2025, the Appropriation (No.4) Bill, 2025, the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Manipur GST (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Bhattacharjee placed special emphasis on the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 16, 2025. He described the proposed legislation as a landmark step toward strengthening rural employment and livelihoods.
Explaining the key provisions of the Bill, Bhattacharjee said it aims to enhance transparency and efficiency under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). One of the most significant changes proposed is the increase in guaranteed employment from 100 days to 125 days per year for rural households. The Bill also retains the provision for unemployment allowance if work is not provided within 15 days, thereby reinforcing accountability.
He further explained that the funding structure under the proposed legislation has been revised to a centrally sponsored scheme with a 60:40 cost-sharing ratio between the Centre and the states, while northeastern and Himalayan states will receive funding under a 90:10 ratio. According to Bhattacharjee, this special provision reflects the Centre’s sensitivity to the unique developmental challenges faced by the northeastern region, including Tripura.
Turning to state-level initiatives, Bhattacharjee highlighted several welfare and development programmes implemented during the 2025–26 financial year. These include the Chief Minister Tribal Development Mission, the Mukhyamantri Model Bhal Lage Scheme, the Mukhyamantri Matsya Bikash Yojana, the Integrated Crop Management Programme, and various social assistance projects. He stated that these initiatives are aimed at ensuring balanced growth, boosting rural incomes, and improving quality of life.

Bhattacharjee reiterated the government’s strong focus on women’s empowerment, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat, Atmanirbhar Mahila.” He said targeted schemes and financial support mechanisms have helped women become economically self-reliant, particularly in rural and tribal areas.
Youth employment was also highlighted as a major priority area. Bhattacharjee said transparent and merit-based recruitment processes have led to a significant number of government job appointments in 2025–26. In addition, various loan schemes and entrepreneurship programmes have been introduced to encourage self-employment and innovation among young people.
Concluding his address, Bhattacharjee reaffirmed that the BJP-led government remains committed to the upliftment of both tribal and non-tribal communities in Tripura. He pledged that development initiatives would continue with renewed energy in the coming year, ensuring that progress remains inclusive, sustainable, and people-centric.
