Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha says India is fully prepared amid Bangladesh unrest, as protests, violence, and anti-India slogans escalate following Osman Hadi’s death. The Centre is closely monitoring border security and regional stability.

Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr Manik Saha, on Friday asserted that India is fully prepared to face any emerging situation arising from the ongoing political unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, while emphasizing that the Central government is keeping a close watch on developments across the border.

Dr Saha made the remarks while responding to questions on the renewed wave of violence in Bangladesh following the death of Osman Hadi, a prominent leader associated with the July uprising. His death reportedly sparked fresh turmoil across several parts of the country, leading to vandalism, arson, and street protests.

According to reports, mobs targeted the offices of leading Bangladeshi newspapers, including Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, setting parts of the buildings on fire. Demonstrations were also staged outside the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, where some protesters were heard raising anti-India slogans, further escalating diplomatic and security concerns.

Addressing the issue, Dr Saha said the situation in Bangladesh deteriorated significantly after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was compelled to leave the country. “After Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave, the situation became extremely volatile. We have witnessed the release of known terrorists and hardened criminals who had been imprisoned during the previous government. What followed was not entirely unexpected,” the Chief Minister stated.

He added that the state government has shared detailed reports with the Central government, as the matter involves international relations and national security. Expressing confidence in New Delhi’s leadership, Dr Saha said that appropriate decisions would be taken at the right time. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I am confident that effective steps will be taken whenever required,” he said.

Responding to concerns about India’s preparedness amid rising regional instability, the Chief Minister expressed strong faith in the country’s armed forces and defence infrastructure. He highlighted that modern warfare has evolved beyond conventional battlefields. “India has one of the best air defence systems in the world. Warfare today is not limited to physical combat; advanced technologies such as drones and surveillance systems play a crucial role. Our country is fully capable of dealing with any situation,” he asserted.

Dr Saha also underscored that border security in Tripura remains robust. The northeastern state shares an 856-kilometre-long international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded by the neighbouring country on three sides. He said security agencies remain vigilant, and coordination with central forces continues to ensure peace and stability along the border.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come at a time when India is closely monitoring political instability in Bangladesh due to its potential impact on regional security, cross-border movement, and diplomatic relations. Officials have reiterated that safeguarding national interests and maintaining border security remain top priorities amid the evolving situation.
